After what felt like a million years they arrived at their new home in Annapolis, Maryland. Although Emily hated that she was here she had to admit the pale blue house looked really pretty. It was kind of what she imagined an upper class American house to look; like a white wine mum had screamed at the builders all through construction so that it would be exactly as she imagined.
"So do you like it?" Her dad asked her.
"I imagined it to be more, what's the word? Ahhh. Prison like. Nah this is quaint." Her mother gave her a pointed look as she scurried inside. She was then shown to her room. It was bigger than London and so far without a bed or any furniture.
"Muuuummm," She yelled down the stairs,"where's my stuff?"
As she arrived at the bottom of the stairs to the open plan kitchen her mum finally responded.
"What do you mean, everything was supposed to have been delivered and set up for us yesterday, it's why we marked all our boxes so meticulously."
"Well I currently don't have anywhere to sleep, so somethings gone wrong."
After two hours on the phone Amelia Anderson trudged her way out of the house to the car where her daughter sat in the front passenger seat. She knocked on the window and opened the door, before sitting in the drivers side. "So hunny, it seems the delivery company messed up the dates and half the furniture, your fathers and mine, will be here tomorrow. However, yours and the rest of the houses won't be here till Tuesday." Panic started to swell in her chest as her breathes quickened. Her mother repeatedly told her to look at her eyes and breathe with her but it was no use until darkness took over.

When she came to, Emmy was laid down on a sofa that she didn't recognise. A blonde girl was sat next to her reading a book and her parents were no where to be seen. The girl appeared to be her age her blue eyes intently piercing the page as though it was hiding something. It was then that the girl seemed to notice she had an audience.
"Oh you're awake." She addressed Emmy before she yelled into, what she assumed, was the kitchen. "Mom, the girl's awake."

It was then she turned her attention back to her sofa guest. "Hiya, how are you feeling? I'm Allie, it's nice to meet you, though I'd rather it be under better circumstances I suppose. Let me get you a glass of water, I know you're Emily so wait one second and I'll explain where you are, I'm sure I'd be confused Waking up on a random sofa on my first day in a new country, most likely very jet lagged as well." All while this "Allie" talked in a torrent of sentences, like she didn't need to breathe, Emily couldn't help but think, will this girl ever let her get a word in. Before she could, the blonde was gone. She returned moments later glass in hand.
Her voice slightly sleep strained, she said, "Thank you." And gave a weak smile at this stranger.
"You're very welcome. Let me introduce myself properly." She began as Allie sat up to drink the water her legs shifting over the side of the sofa and resting on the floor. "I'm Allie Pennington, and I'm your next door neighbour. Your dad carried you to our sofa since you don't have any furniture in your house yet. What a nightmare having no furniture, I can understand why you blacked out." Her cheeks started to redden as Allie spoke, realising she must have blacked out again after hearing the news of their current situation.
After a moment of silence, she spoke assuredly, "It's a pleasure, Allie. Thanks for the sofa. Emily Anderson." She put her hand out for her to shake. Allie's grip was firm and a smile graced her lips. It was then a question sparked in her head. "Where are my parents?"
