Today had not turned out how Emmy had expected; it had been an absolute disaster so far. It had seemed ok until English class, but then came the argument, then the dreaded Maths class, and she felt like she was being watched all day. Of course she was being watched. She was the new girl, but one pair of eyes kept searching for in the crowd and couldn't see her.

Like a mother trying to find her child at the shops Allie found herself leaning over the heads of everyone in the canteen. That was until she located a brunette lurking by the door trying to stand in the chaos.

"Emmy! Over here!" Allie yelled across the already booming room. Before she had heard her name yelled her skin had been crawling with nerves that her friend had forgotten her.
She looked up and saw the blonde balancing on the seat of a table her hand precariously placed atop a handsome brunette boys head. He seemed to be used to this sort of behaviour, perhaps her boyfriend or a gay best friend? She waved at them so Allie would know she saw them and would get down from her ridiculous position. The canteen was like a battlefield, she had to dodge trays and running people but she finally made it to her friend's table. There were 7 people sat at the table: Allie, mr handsome balance support, mr dark eyes who was kissing the blonde girl sitting on his lap, there was a ginger girl who was snuggled up to a boy with his arm around her shoulder and a football uniform, and lastly sat a cute nerdy boy who was sat at the table reading a book and tapping his pen against a carton that was teetering at the edge of the table.

Her attention was suddenly drawn away as she realised she had been starring. "Emmy, there you are," her voice, reassuring for some reason. "Everyone this is Emmy, my new next door neighbour. This here is Will, Marco, Jen, Lance, Miles, and. . . . Marcos latest girl, I think her name is susie?" Whispering the last part to Emmy.

Three of the heads turned towards her and offered her greetings. The three then introduced themselves. Will, who she learned was Allies boyfriend, so not gay, was the football captain and apparently him and Marco were stepbrothers. Jen, the ginger girl was dating Lance. She was really nice and by the end of their introduction had seduced her into the promise of a shopping trip. Lance, was also on the football team, a tall black guy with a great smile and sense of humour which she had learned simultaneously. The dark eyed guy, Marco, while having his face glued to this girl had made eye contact with her a couple times. Miles, the last boy sitting at the table. Hadn't looked up once since her arrival so she decided to move around the table and sit next to him so he'd be forced to look up at her and say hello. As she did so the milk carton finally fell from the ceaseless tapping, catching it just as she sat down. The boy with dark hair finally looked up and met her warm brown eyes with his. She received a thank you before he turned back to his book and once again ignored her presence. It was then Marco finally decided to detach the blonde from his face.

"Don't expect much out of him his best friends are books"

"What does that make me a book?" Allie replied in exasperation. Before Marco had a chance to reply the bell for 4th period rang and Emmy was forced back into the hellish world of school.

Emmy's next class was Spanish, which she had never taken in her life as she did German and French at GCSE. As she entered the class room the only seat left available was on last row in the centre between Marco and Miles. As she sat down she could help but think this year was going to be very interesting if the seating plans were permanent. She was correct of course since the entirety of that lesson consisted of her struggling to read everything while Miles mumbled Spanish words under his breath every time she tried to a failed to answer a question, and of Marco constant looking at her and pointing at different parts of her text book.
By the end of the day she was exhausted and just wanted to get home but she couldn't remember how so she ran to the front of the school praying Allie hadn't left yet.
When she finally reached the front she realised she needn't have ran since Allie was attached to Will leaning against the bicycle shed.
She'd been starting so long at the couple she hadn't noticed Miles had come up next to her and was standing their ominously. A sudden yelp of pain suddenly sounded from beside her alerting her to his appearance.
"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, headache. Let me walk you home, they're going to be a while." Before she could protest that she'd just wait he had already picked up her school bag which she had put down by her ankle and started waking to her house.
