Allie rushed out the house towards Will's place. Luckily as a long distance runner it only took her 15minutes to get between the two houses. Will had texted saying that there was something urgent they needed to discus and to get their asap. Allie was also never one to hesitate a second when it concerned getting to see her boyfriend, that was perhaps why she left her new friend dumbfounded and alone after experiencing her first ever earthquake.
When Allie arrived at Will's house she was shocked to discover that the entirety of the round table was there. He had said it was urgent but if they were all there it wasn't anything to do with personal issues.
"What's going on?" Allie called as she took a seat in the loveseat in the living room."That's what we're waiting to hear, Will wouldn't tell us until you arrived." Jen huffed from where she sat curled up with Lance.
Marcos sat at the opposite of the end of the sofa to Jen and Lance, sparring glances towards his phone seemingly awaiting a text from his latest hook up.
Miles, having deemed all the other seats in the room too close to the others, sat instead on a puff intended as a footrest which he had pushed back so as to not be in the centre of the room."Thanks for coming so quick guys" Will pronounced as he stood up,"I know it's a little out of no where as everything has seemed pretty peaceful all summer but I think we need to discus how things are going to work now we're back at school."
Allie was a bit confused hearing this. "What do you mean, Babe? I thought you said this was urgent I assumed there was some sort of threat?" The others nodded in agreement.
"What I mean is that we need to stick together. Allie I know you want to be friends with this new neighbour of yours but you barely know her and what if something happens and we can't come up with an explanation. What if she starts asking questions about Miles?"
"Wait so we're not allowed to make friends outside this group of people? What about Marco?"
"Marco doesn't bring around friends who want to be our friends plus he has a history of having a good judge of character. You're the one who trusted Mr Moore."
"This is unbelievable, you don't trust me? And what makes you think something is going to happen the prophecy said every 1000 years, it hasn't even been one." Allie stood up and started to walk out when Miles interrupted.
In a quiet but strong voice Miles said, "I think she's ok." The room was captivated as they often were when Miles chose to speak. During the summer he had partially reverted back to the quiet and cautious boy he had been, this was in part from becoming used to once again being ignored. Jen, Lance, Will and Allie, even Marco had all become very distracted by their relationships and had chose to hang out and go on double dates with their partners, rather than spend time as a group.
Allie sat back down in this moment of quiet, seemingly taking the air out from under her wings.
"Look Will, I don't want to give up on being Emmy's friend. I remember what it was like being the new girl."⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆
Emmy was grateful when her parents returned home unscathed that night. They had not replied due to a cell tower being knocked down during the earthquake, which had left her anxiously pacing, and wishing for company, while she waited the few hours until their appearance at 18:00.
She spent the evening planning out where she would put everything and contemplating what Miles had said about physical memories. Were they really so telling? Was it weird not to have many? She didn't find herself physically attached to things, more to people and the things she could carry with her as she flowed through life. She was thinking about living in London when she was little when like usual the thought of her blackouts drifted unceremoniously across her mind.
Emmy remembered when she first had a blackout. She had been playing in the school pool on the No drills end of term fun day, (You'll know what I mean if you're a Brit) when she had had a girl steal the float she had been using to pretend to be a mermaid with her friend Allya. She asked the girl to give it back as she was using it, but she didn't remember much after the girls refusal and an overwhelming feeling in her chest, before she woke up on the floor of the pool wet room. The teacher had had to stop the class and pull her unconscious body out the water. She figured the blackout episodes would pass but she still had them occasionally.

After being cooped up all day in a fluster, she really wanted to go for an evening walk and was putting on her trainers having already changed into some comfy black joggers with the yellow hoodie she had gone to school in, "Mum I'm heading out, I need a half hour to cool down."
"Okay honey, be back by 21:30." Her mum yelled back down the stairs.
She left the house a few moments after that walking at a brisk pace, not wanting to get lost if she went on a run in the dark. Her bag swung at her hip as she went in search for a 24hr corner shop. It was only when she was a few blocks from home she stopped to wonder if they had those in the US.
She continued walking a few more roads before she regretted forgetting her headphones, but was hit with the obvious idea of googling the location of a 24hr shop.
As it was, there was a 7/11 three blocks away.
She continued on her way and eventually found the store, but also found herself baffled at the size of both the drinks and the food available. She ended up getting a packet of chocolate buttons as it was a bit too late for a slushy, though she was curious to try one.
Emmy headed for the door and started on her journey back home, knowing it was 21:00 and she didn't want to have to rush.
She turned a dark corner where the streetlights seemed to somehow miss the pavement as she followed her phones instructions home. It was then she found herself pushed against the wall to her left and a cold pressure at her throat.
"Be quiet."
She stood face to face with a man in a mask as he grabbed her bag off her shoulder, and took the phone from her hand. He then slowly retreated before making a run for it. She stood in stunned silence for a moment as her heart refused to calm down. Everything went dark.
