"Keep it as clean as possible. We can't afford any injuries..."

Not really giving a damn about what this kid is saying, I start up my engine and hum with proudness when it purrs to life.

"You're going down Ryder!" This barbaric ass Ricky yells from beside of me in his piece of shit car.

Instead of retorting, I just nod my head.

We'll see who's going down real soon...

Carrie, I think her name is, steps out in between our cars in only a bikini. I might just have to hit that after the race.

She holds her arm up and I apply a little more force to the pedal, making the engine of my 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 roar louder.

1...2...3. The second she brings down her arm I'm off.

I easily take the lead but that doesn't mean anything. Your opponent can always come back, so you have to stay alert.

Ricky eases his way up beside me. He starts to bump me a little bit. I just apply more force to the gas pedal.

Damn it! The road ahead is narrow, meaning one of us will have to take the lead.

Ricky speeds up and so do I. I ain't letting this dumb-ass beat me.

I'm pushing well past 80 mph and my speed is still increasing. I inch my car a little further until it's past Ricky's. He attempts to do the same thing but fails. I take the lead and lead us into the narrow road up ahead.

Ricky starts to honk his horn at me like the idiot he is. I just ease forward a little faster and smirk to myself.

The finish line comes into view and I put more and more force on the gas until I pass it. I let out a holler of victory and hit the breaks easily, letting the car come to a stop. I climb out of the drivers window and watch as my best friend Dean and some other people come rushing towards me.

"Great job man! You left Ricky's dumb ass in the dirt!" Dean congratulates me. He gives me a bro hug and then backs away. He knows its the ladies turn now.

"That was amazing Ryder!" Some fake red head says.

"Yeah. How did you get so good?" Another girl asks.

"A lot of practice." I answer with a smirk.

"That's bullshit Ryder! You cheated!" Ricky comes up and yells.

"How the hell did he cheat?" Dean asks already annoyed. I hate racing against this douche bag. He's always insisting I cheat. I can't help it that he sucks.

"I don't know how but you did!" Ricky says.

"Shut the hell up Ricky. I didn't cheat. I never have! You're just looking for an excuse to tell everybody since you lost! Just give me my money before I kick your ass." I spit back.

His eyes widen in surprise. I never really lose my cool like I just did. I let my racing do the talking.

"You'll pay for that Mitchell." He says with venom laced in his tone and storms off but not before throwing my seven hundred dollars at me.

"Screw him. He's just jealous because he isn't half the man you are." A decent looking brunette says seductively. Well, looks like I found who I'm taking home tonight.

"How about we all go out to celebrate Ryder's victory. First round's on me." Deans says happily. I laugh a little and nod my head.

"Great lets go. Ryder, can I ride with you?" The brunette asks.

"Um, I guess." I say with uncertainty. I walk to my car and she follows behind me. We jump in and take off to the nearest bar.

Two hours and six drinks later, we're in my apartment.

Brittany, I think her name is, stumbles through the doorway to my room and flops down on my bed. I know exactly where she is going with this.

Not wanting to get into detail, lets just say I rocked her world that night. I don't do the whole 'cuddling' shit, so I call her a cab.

She tries to kiss me on her way out but I dodge it. I'm not one for emotional ties so it's best if she gets the picture now rather than later when I'm most likely screwing her best friend.

I know I'm kind of a dick but that's just how I am. It's how I've always been. It's what I grew up with.

I walk to my kitchen and grab a beer out of the fridge. I crack it open and walk back to the living room and turn on the tv. Some race rerun is on so I plop down on my couch and take a sip of my drink.

Faith's POV

"I'm gonna miss you so much mama!" I sob into her chest and hug her goodbye.

"I'm gonna miss you too baby doll, but I know you'll do great out there. Knock 'em dead honey and make sure you call me everyday." She sobs back.

"Ok mama. It's time for me to go. I love you." I say and walk to where my dad is waiting for me in his truck.

"I love you too!" She calls while we pull out of the drive way.

"Are you sure about this honey? We can always turn around and forget about the whole thing?" My dad asks with a concerned face.

At twenty years old I'm still as much of a daddy's girl as I was when I was five.

When I first told my parents I was moving to Seattle to follow my dream of becoming a published author my daddy took it the worst.

He refused to let me go because he wouldn't be there to protect me but my mom convinced him I was old enough to make my own decisions and that I needed to pursue my dreams.

"Yes daddy. I'm positive. I have to do this. You raised me to follow me dreams and stay true to who I am and that's what I'm gonna do." I assure him sweetly yet sternly.

He smiles a sad smile. "That's my girl."

We arrive at the airport five minutes later and I hop out while my dad gets my suitcases.

"Ok, last chance to back out." He says.

"Daddy stop." I laugh and hug him tightly.

"I'll miss you daddy." I cry into his shoulder.

"I'll miss you too baby girl. Call us if you need anything and stay away from those bastard boys up there, got it?" He says sternly.

Even growing up I was never allowed to date much. The boys that liked me were too scared of my dad to even think about asking me out. Though, who could blame them? My dad used to be a Navy soldier and that was after he was a bull rider.

"I got it daddy." I laugh.

"Flight 263 to Seattle, Washington is now boarding." A lady's voice sounds over the intercom.

"Well that's me. I love you daddy. I'll call y'all soon, ok?"

"Ok sweetheart. I love you." He says with a sad smile and watches as I make my way through the airport and hand my ticket to the lady at the desk.

I turn back around, smile, and wave as I watch tears fill up in his eyes. I board the plane and take my seat.

I look out the window and think to myself, 'This is it.'

Goodbye Greenville, Tennessee and hello Seattle, Washington.
