why

     Revali met us back at the Flight Range. He looked disgruntled as he landed gracefully and walked into the little roost where Sadie and I were waiting for him. 

     I looked up from the merry fire. "Ah, there you are. What's with the long face? Surprised that your people didn't fall to their knees begging you to stay?"

     "Shut it."

     "Are you ready?" Sadie leapt up from her perch by the fire. "I kind of wanna see Death Mountain."

     Revali had a small sachel thrown over his shoulder, next to his bow and a full quiver. "That all you need?" I asked him.

     "I guess so." He shrugged. "If I starve to death with you that would be salvation."

     "That goes for the both of us. Let's go already. The kid wants to see Death Mountain."

     Revali flew ahead while Sadie and I lagged behind on foot. We followed a dirt path leading northeast from the Flight Range and (use your map for this, guys) passed through the Snowfield Stable, where we took out a horse to use for our journey. 

     We then continued following the road where it took a sharp turn south, hugging the legendary Forgotten Temple at the very outskirts of the Hebra regions. We stepped out of the snow and I felt a warm breeze caress my cheek. 

     "The weather's normalizing." I commented as Sadie and I, atop a horse, trotted into Serenne Stable. "Finally."

     I helped her to her feet and boarded our horse. We'd continue the rest of the way -- breaking off from the path and going straight east across Elma Knolls and Rauru Hillside -- on foot because of the unpredictable terrain off the road. Revali was waiting for us already at the stable. 

     "You two are so slow." He complained with an eyeroll. 

     "You are so extra." I shot back. "We go east."

     We chose the shortest route to Death Mountain that we could easily traverse, but also one of the riskiest. We'd be nearly brushing Hyrule Castle the way we were going. 

     We were entering nighttime, flanked by the moats of Hyrule Castle and the murky waters boardering the Lost Woods. I kept expecting someone to notice us, but we passed through safe. Nevertheless, I felt stir of something ill at ease as I gazed upon the majestic Hyrule Castle, sick from the inside. 

     The final rays of golden sunset was dragged down the horizon. Sadie was starting to lose her strength. She was slowing down, her head drooping.

     It was already highly commendable that this six-year-old child had followed me this far. If she wasn't tired, she was superhuman. I picked her up and let her cling to my back. She rested her cheek on my shoulder and closed her eyes. 

     Revali and I stared each other down.

     "I won't stop first." I stated. 

     "Neither will I." He replied, crossing his wings.

     We travelled on, the boldest of the stars already peeking through the rapidly falling night, draped with rose-pedal clouds. The silvery moon hung in the ocean of navy blue, a lonely fisherman's boat sailing through the empty skies. 

     Well, we ended up making it to the foot Death Mountain just dawn was breaking. 

     Neither of us stopped at all. 

     That's how stubborn we were.

     The newborn morning light gilded the golden edges of the massive pillars of stone, like massive spears brandished bravely at Death Mountain. Even at its foot, I could feel the heat radiating from the rivers of red-gold lava overflowing from its mouth and pooling at the bottom.
