We were sitting in a lush field of lazily swaying grass. Your fingers were entangled in the emerald blades, idly entwined in the earth.
I was sitting cross-legged by your side, watching your fingertips softly stroke the flowers blooming by your feet.
At that moment, everything was okay. There was no Calamity hanging over our heads. No disapproving eyes scanning our every movement, picking out our every mistake. No expectations. Just two people enjoying a minute of peace, doused in the warm sunlight.
The grass was the exact shade of your shining eyes, alight with life.
"Can I see?" I asked, a small smile touching my lips.
"Nope." You said, laughter dancing in your eyes. "Not yet."
"C'mon." Our hands touched as I reached for what was interlaced between your slender fingers. "Let me see."
"It's not done yet." You shoved my hand away, laughing. "I'll let you see when I'm finished."
"Zellllllda." I stretched out the word.
"Make your own." You punched me lightly on the arm. "You're annoying."
"I'll take that as a compliment." I grinned, leaning back and breathing in the fresh air deeply. It smelled like growth, like life.
"How does that even work." You lowered your beautiful eyes to your chain of flowers, smiling to yourself. In that heartbeat, you looked as though you were meant to be woven into the threads of nature, part of the same artwork. You looked like you belonged here, surrounded by soft lines and fresh colours.
You looked like you were home.
I settled into a comfortable silence, watching you mess around with your flowers. A warm breeze toyed with my loose hair.
"There." You grinned widely as you held up your chain of blooms, the stems entwined together and the feather-soft pedals displaying the full of their radiant beauty, embedded like gems on these brilliantly green cuffs.
How could a flower bracelet make you even more beautiful? I thought as I drew my head back, gazing at the smooth chain.
"Like it?" You looked at me, expectant.
"Of course." I ran my fingertips gently over the intricate braid. "It's gorgeous."
"Obviously." You snatched it back, throwing me a triumphant glance. "I made it, didn't I?"
I laughed casually, raising my eyes to the cloudless sky. "Hands of a magician."
"Magic!" You waved your hands in my face, and I shoved you away, both laughing freely for the first time in such a long time.
You looked so happy there in the sunlight, sprawled out on the field, just living.
I wished that that moment could last forever.
