"What is the meaning of this" Morax demanded, frustration in his voice. The archon stood his ground between Guizhong and Tartaglia, gripping his polearm. Rex Lapis's tattoos glistened in the dark atmosphere, his white robe and hair soaked. His golden eyes stared at the harbinger with a mixture of confusion and hatred. Only when he looked behind him did his expression soften.
"Do you have any serious injuries?" his voice was shaky
"I may have scraped my hand, but that's about it" She smiled
Holding her hand, he flipped it over to reveal small cuts on Guizhong's palm. A painful expression spread across his face. The god of dust reached for the archon's face, she pinched his cheek.
"It's just a scratch, no need to worry" Guizhong lectured him. Watching from afar stood Tartaglia. His face was emotionless, but his mind was far, far away.
He opened his eyes to a white void, no matter where he turned it was the same colour. Until he spotted Zhongli, the god was not facing him only looking into the empty terrain. The harbinger quickly dashed to him, he embraced the other man and dug his head into Zhongli's shoulder. Tears dripped onto the archon's clothes.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Zhongli I don't what came over me" Childe sobbed. He held his lover for a while, comforted by the warmth of his body.
"Zhongli...will you please look at me?" His pleading was met by silence. Letting the god go, the ginger took a step beside him. As he tried to move his legs, he felt something around his feet. He tilted his head down, the saw a thick black tar oozing out of the ground. Childe's feet were englued by that substance as it began to rise. He quickly looked to his partner for aid, only to see him walking away with Guizhong. His heart began to beat faster, as a wave of anxiety washed over him. He didn't want to lose Zhongli again, using all his strength he tried to move forward. But everything was in vain. The tar continued to rise to his knees,
"Blyat!" He swore in anger. The idea of using his delusion crossed his mind. But it was too late, the tar rose to his chest. He couldn't do this alone, he urgently need help, he needed help from Zhongli.
"ZHONG-" His voice was muffled by the slimy substance, it wrapped around his mouth like a snake. It didn't matter how loud he yelled, how hard he tried to get out of this thing's grasp. It was no use. He reached his hand out towards Zhongli. He saw him only continue to walk far away, into a bright light with her. Tears filled his eyes as he realized that he was betrayed. He soon accepted his fate, it was no use to struggle any longer. The substance ate him alive. Underneath the tar, he felt his body slowly sink deeper.
He slowly closed his eyes. The memories of his whole life flashed before his eyes. A hand cupped his face. His eyes shot open, Zhongli had come to save him, or so he thought. He was face to face with no one other than himself. Instead of his normal grey attire, the other him was wearing the same outfit, the only difference was the colours. This version of himself wasn't human, just a killing machine the fatui and abyss constructed.
A weapon with no other purpose other than to kill.
"You're still too weak," Childe said to Ajax
Even through his double's mask, he was able to see a sinister grin.
"Allow me to take the lead, I can help bring us to victory" The weapon whispered into Ajax's ears
"Let go and grant me your body"
