CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

KRISTINE'S POV

Finally, the hell week is done. Not that I actually feel like in hell since the exams were pretty easy. Nakasanayan na lang talaga na sabihin yung expression na 'yun.

Though to be honest, it wasn't really that stressful since there was always coffee and cake every time na matatapos ang exam day ko.

I don't really know why but Jairo did—once again—enter my life that quick. Just great, Kristine. How to not be marupok again? Napailing naman ako.

Now, I seriously do not know if I could still hold on to not being sure about not giving him a chance. I'm obviously making him part of my life again. A happy part of my life to be exact.

Napabuga na lang ako ng hangin. I'm currently inside my room and lying down on the bed as I stare into nothingness. Iniisip ko kung mag-aayos na ba ako ng gamit o hindi pa. I did settle on the former choice.

I was in the middle of putting clothes in my backpack when my phone rang. It was Ayel calling, so I quickly picked it up.

"Hey, need anything?"

(Why yes, of course. You promised that we'll shop after your exams.) Halatang nagtatampo ang tono ng boses nito pero makulit ang dating.

Mahina naman akong natawa. "Right. Sorry, it kinda left my mind."

(Hmp. Not because you keep on having dates with my cousin, that you'll forget me.)

Nanlaki naman ang mga mata ko. "Ayel! Those are not dates," I quickly reasoned out.

I heard her scoff. (Well, he's kinda assuming that those are dates. I mean come on! Going out after school hours? Having food with just the two of you?) She squealed. (Is the probability of his chances getting higher?)

Natigilan naman ako saka napangiti. "Yeah, I think so."

Ayel squealed again. (Oh my! Welcome to the family! I shall inform Aunt Jen this instant—)

"Ayel! Siraulo ka. Tumigil ka nga't huminahon." She just laughed at me. "Hindi pa nga nanliligaw yung pinsan mo eh—" Bigla na naman akong natigilan sa sinabi ko. Oh my god. Did those words just come out of my mouth?

(He's still not officially courting you‽) Tumango naman akong parang sira. Akala mo naman eh makikita niya. (Oh he's such a slow poke.)

Napailing na lang ako. "Changing the topic. What do you wanna do? I'm still available until..." Tiningnan ko ang desk calendar ko. "The end of the week."

(Why? You're gonna be taken by Jai next week?)

"Ayel naman eh!" Agad kong naramdaman ang pag-iinit ng mukha ko.

And she just laughed at me! How dare her to tease me like that‽ (But seriously, why though?)

Kinalma ko muna ang sarili ko bago sumagot. "Uuwi ako sa probinsya at nangako ako kay Angel na uuwi ako sa birthday niya dahil pauwi na rin si Papa."

(Ooh... complete family. That must be nice.) Medyo nalungkot naman ako sa sinabi ni Ayel. (Okay then, what are you doing now?)

"Nag-iimpake na't maglalayas na ako," biro ko na gumana naman nang marinig ko ang tawa niya.

(Okay, okay. We'll shop tomorrow then.)

"Sige, sige."
