Setting down the last of the boxes from the moving truck, you sighed loudly. Tired of all the packing and moving really sucked the energy out of you. After paying to the man behind the wheels, you made your way inside your brand new home.
You have been living in different cities- even countries- for the past 2 years. First because of your studies and then for internship and stuff. Now, finally after getting a well paid job at a MNC, you settled down in your new apartment in uptown Seoul.
It took you about half a day to unpack most of the necessary things and decorate your house as you pleased and you were quite happy with the outcome.
Finally able to unpack the last couple of boxes that were sitting in your coat closet, you took a deep relaxing breath. You glanced out of the window only to catch snow falling down covering almost everything in a white sheen.
Adjusting your radiator at a bearable temperature, your gaze fell upon a wooden box placed by the centre table of your living room. It was glazed with a shiny polish and pretty little engraving on it.
You dusted off the top and pushed the small lock open, inside there were a bunch of old pictures. Pictures from your past, your family, friends, your pet.
You came to realize that shuffling through this box would take a while and you did not want to go through Memory Lane with an exhausted pair of eyes so you grab a mug and fill it with your favorite tea before starting.
“Okay let’s start” you sigh as you drag the box to your table and sit down between it and the couch to be more comfortable.
You pull out each stack of photos one by one carefully examining the memories you captured. The moments when you bought your first pet cat and when you went fishing with your father. Your friends performing utmost nonsensical dance moves after getting drunk at a sleepover. It was all there. Safe and sound.
As you near the end of the box you come across a picture with ‘My Love’ written on the back in a familiar handwriting. You flip over the photo and see you and your ex boyfriend, Jungkook, posing and smiling together.
He had the most precious smile with crinkled eyes. Fluffy locks and bunny teeth on display. It was one of the best sights you could ever ask for.
But as you reminisced further, you realised that he gave you this picture the same day the two of you broke up.
Jungkook was your first and so far only love and dating him seemed euphoric in every sense. You two dated for three years, sharing all of your firsts with one another.
Every second you were with him made you ecstatic. Being with him gave you the happiness of a lifetime.
But why did you break up? Why did it end up in pictures and memories only?
Just because his career and your career paths began to clash.
He was the only heir to his father's company. Preparing to take over the business after his father felt weak and managing college were already a handful for him and you were an extremely busy college student as well.
You tried moving in together but he was just too busy with everything that he barely got home. You barely had time from each other, even though you tried your best to see one another it just wasn’t working.
And the final thing that made you both realize it was time for your relationship to end was when your university offered a study abroad program to you so you could finish your last two years in a different country and start an internship there.
“You don’t have to go. Please don't go” Jungkook said, squeezing your hands tightly. He was visibly hurt with the sudden decision you made.
“I don't want to go koo but this just makes sense. We are drifting apart" you said, holding onto him with equal desperation.
“I don’t want to lose you. I love you" he said, pleading for you to change your mind.
"As much as we try to deny it koo, but you know we can't keep doing this to ourselves. This is hurting both of us" you said. A tear dropped down your eye. He gently, with the pad of his thumb wiped the tear away and placed his forehead against yours.
"If that's what's right, I'll do that. I'll support you in everything you do,” he brushes your tears away and you just simply nod your head, burying your head into his chest.
He pulled your face towards his and gave you one last longing kiss on the lips. It was desperate, a sign to hold onto but you both knew you couldn't. It was just too difficult. And then you said goodbye. Praying and hoping for a loved future for each other, even if it's without the other in it.

You grab the last few photos that you had with him. Slowly studying them as you try to remember all the good times. It’s been awhile since you saw these pictures and a lot of these memories have sadly started to fade away.
You hated having him only through these small sheets of paper. You flip through the photos and didn’t realize you were crying until a black drop fell onto one of the pictures. You wipe your eyes spreading your already wet mascara.
“I guess I miss you more than I thought I would and I think I love you more than I loved anyone,” you force out a small chuckle.
Flipping through these memories made you think about what Jungkook was up to these days. Even though you told each other you’ll stay in contact it didn’t quite turn out that way. You were both just way too busy.
But guess that is not really a valid excuse now is it? If you truly loved someone you would try your best to make time for them.
“I hope you find someone to love you more than I did,” tears trickling down your cheeks and landing on the remains of your broken memories. You placed the pictures back and shut the box. It had your life inside it and you'd very much like to hold onto it.

Back in Seoul
“I miss you so much Y/N.” Jungkook held the other part of the picture of the two of you closely to his chest before falling asleep. He cried yet another night to sleep.
"I wish you'd come back to me" he thought and the last year dropped on his already tear stained cheeks lulling him to sleep slowly.
