Rafe stared at his phone, anxiously waiting for a message or a phone call from his best friend telling him she was going to be home soon.
2:37am

She'd been out all night without giving Rafe a single detail, he didn't even know if she was safe.
This wasn't a rare occurrence, it happened almost every couple of nights.
Rafe paced around the kitchen of Octavia's house, running his hand through his hair and tugging it slightly in frustration.

You've been out all night
I don't know where you've been
You're slurring all your words
Not making any sense
But I don't fucking care, at all
Cause I have hella feelings for you....

The front door swung open as Octavia stumbled in, a half empty bottle of alcohol in one hand and a bag in the other.
Rafe sighed in relief and rushed to her aid.

"Octavia seriously?! You haven't been answering any of my calls and texts I've been worried!" Rafe ridiculed

Octavia rolled her eyes and placed the bottle on the accent table next to the door.
"I'm fineee Rafe- just a tad tipsy." She slurred

"How did you even get home?!"

"Uhhh- s-some g-guy. I think." She hiccuped

Anger and jealousy boiled inside of Rafe, he clenched his jaw trying desperately not to yell.
"Octavia seriously these actions aren't safe. At all!"

"He gave me this bag though- in case I "throw up"." Octavia scoffed

Rafe shook his head, "Let's get you to bed."

I act like I don't fucking care
Like they ain't even there

Rafe sat on Octavia's bed, waiting for her to come out of the bathroom. There was no denying that he was head over heels for her- he held so much love for Octavia but he refused to tell her or anyone.
Rafe was rejected too frequently and he refused to lose Octavia.
He'd be lying if he said it didn't hurt to see her out partying with different guys all the time- he wished it was him, he should be the guy she takes to parties, he should be the guy she kisses, he should be the guy she dances with, he should be the guy she calls hers.
But he isn't.

Octavia stumbled into the room, now in her pyjamas and her makeup completely off.
"Here let me help..."

Rafe took her hand and led her to the queen sized bed, lying her down and pulling the covers over her.
"Do you need anything?" He asked

Octavia shook her head, burying her head deeper into her pillow.
"Thank you Rafe- I know I can be a handful but you still stand by me and you're always there to pick me up. I appreciate it so much." She whispered

But I don't fucking care, at all...

Rafe smiled and kissed her cheek lightly, "You're welcome."

Rafe knew she didn't feel the same as he did, yet he still stuck around and fell for her even more- digging a deeper hole for himself.
He knew he was stupid for not taking a step back, he acted like he didn't care that she slept around and came home drunk all the time.
But in reality it hurt him so fucking much.
He knew he was going around in circles with Octavia, she'd act like they were a couple and then she'd ghost him and turn up drunk- saying how much she loves and appreciates him.
He knew this would happen again in a few days, he'd be back in the same position- looking after her while she unintentionally led him on.

"I love you Rafe." She muttered, drifting off into a deep sleep.

Rafe sighed, "I love you too O."

He knew she didn't mean it in the same way as he did, but all that mattered was that she was saying those words to him.
He didn't fucking care- he just pretended she wanted him too in the same he wanted her.
