8. fireworks

Author's POV

New Year's Eve!
We all love New Year's.
A fresh new start.
So much could change
in the next upcoming year.

Jay and Jake were still
alone in the apartment.
They are planning to
go out and watch the fireworks
with a few friends.

The oldest of the two
spent the whole night
thinking about what
happened the
day before.

Not one confession,
but two.

Jay smiled every time
he replayed
him and Ni-Ki's
shy yet sweet
conversation
in his mind.

Ni-Ki, on the other hand,
slept like a baby.
No stress whatsoever.
I mean, he fell asleep
with the latter on
his mind.

The two boys both
woke up feeling joyful.
Jay hopped out of
his bed, sprinting
to the kitchen
to make a loving
breakfast for himself.

Jay spent about 30 minutes
cooking his meal.
Jake awoke from his slumber
due to some clattering
noises coming from
the kitchen.

Jake saw the older
eating a full on
four-course-meal
all by himself
in the kitchen.

"What's the occasion,"
asked Jake,
making his way
up to Jay.

"Umm...nothing?"
The younger crossed
his eyebrows,
befuddled.
"Huh?"
"Ok, so...I may have
told Ni-Ki that
I like him..."

Jake's reaction
was a warm smile.
He sat down beside
Jay, on a stool.

"Good for you, hyung."
He patted Jay's shoulder.
The older smiled back.
"What was his response,"
Jake questioned.

"Oh! He said he liked
me as well."
Jay softly beamed
as he spoke.

Jake kept smiling
and looked at Jay's
jam-packed plate.
He debated on whether
he should steal
a piece of golden toast,
fresh fruit, pancakes
flooded with maple
syrup, or the
two colourful gingerbread
men that were laid flat
on the plate.

"What?"
Jay noticed the
younger staring
at the counter.
"Can I have some?"
Jake asked.

"Oh, yeah, sure!
There's a lot of
gingerbread men left
over in the packet,
as well as a few more
pancakes and
there's about four or five
strawberries left. And
the bread is in the cupboard."

Jake appreciatively smiled
and got up to get
his own food.

Jay, for the next few minutes,
wanted to snatch his
phone from the charger
and talk to Ni-Ki.
Though he knew he couldn't.
Because first of all,
his phone was basically dead.
Second of all,
it was 8 in the morning
and I doubt Ni-Ki
would be awake.
And if Ni-Ki is awake,
he probably accidentally
pressed his alarm on.

Ni-Ki had just woken
up to the sound
of classical music.
He was a bit confused
and immediately
got out of bed.
Only to find that
his parents were watching
some odd Christmas movie.
