Starlight of the Ocean

Staring down at a space so mysterious and vast, I see my reflection.
It's staring at me and I don't like what I see yet it holds my attention.

With the ripples of the waves my image is distorted and I can't understand.
Why do I look pretty when I always feel so bland?

From a place so distant, dark, and out of reach,
The blue surface of a planet has something left to teach.

A rock like no other, the queen of it's kind.
Pulling the moon in so I can be outshined.

Yet there, I see my image - as distorted as it may be,
Shining brighter than my friends reflected on the sea.

This can't be right! You don't do this in the day!
But it turns out the ocean has something different to say:

'You are beautiful and you shine so bright,
Even if the moon may mask your light,

You deserve not just to be
Part of this world but part of me.

You're part of my oceans and part of my heart.
You help lifeforms navigate and they can tell you apart.

Not because you're the brightest or boldest star there.
But because you're someone's ray of hope that came from nowhere.

So see it, my star, I only wish you to see
That the light I reflect is how beautiful you are to me.'

I see it, I said, but I don't feel that it's true...
For there is no one more beautiful than you.

The ocean just smiled like it had heard its favourite tune,
Waves whispering softly 'but you're a part of me and I'm a part of you.
I love you, my star, and you should do too.'
