Chapter 16: Campbell

Artemis crossed her arms.

Katarina was tending to a crying Maria.

After a while in the carriage, just a few more minutes until they arrived at the large Manor.

Maria had finally calmed down and explained everything.

"Ah... So you never really did get exiled." Artemis hummed, "Tsk..!"

"Eh? Then none of what they said were true?" Katarina asked.

Maria nodded, "You were falsely accused, Lady Katarina."

"Eh!? Ohh..." Katarina was quite oblivious sometimes wasn't she?

"Let's go back home to Sorcier, Lady Katarina, the others are also here too. We were all looking for you!" Maria said.

Katarina felt a tang of guilt.

"Oh... About that." She meekly laughed.

Maria raised a brow.

"I'm not going back," Katarina said.

"What..? W... Why?" Maria was confused.

"I'm an Athanasios." Katarina said, smiling meekly, "I live with Artemis now and she also doesn't want me going back home either."

Katarina wasn't going back? Then what about her? And the others?

Even Gerald had insisted on the King to get them to go instead of someone else as envoys just for an excuse to try and search for her here.

And now she's saying she doesn't want to go back?

Artemis huffed, she was beginning to grow more curious about who Maria is.

"Why won't you come back really?" She asked.

Looks like simple answers won't work for her.

"I like it here," Katarina said.

"There are people who care for me and it's also been so much fun here even when there were a few times where it got scary for just a moment." She continued, "But Artemis always made up with everything to make it less scary anymore than before."

Maria huffed.

"If possible," she put on a sad smile, "I wish to see why you really want to stay."

"Okay." Katarina smiled.

The carriage stopped, and they finally arrived.

The coachman opened the door.

"Welcome back, Duke Athanasios and Young Lady Athanasios!"

The lines of servants greeted them with smiles bowing.

Maria's eyes widened, this was a little surprising.

Artemis snapped her fingers, they all stood upright.

"Aren't you going to greet Katarina's guest Maria?" She scoffed.

Everyone perked up and immediately fell to their knees, heads glued to the ground, saying, "We greet Young Miss Maria!"

Maria was taken aback to step away a little, this was a little... Not something she's ever gotten at all, no, just never.

Artemis smiled seeing such a reaction from her.

"Artemis, you're scaring her..!" Katarina frowned.

Artemis chuckled snapping her fingers again, the servants got back up. They were still smiling.

It was so... Weird for Maria as she walked alongside Katarina.

Well, she was in between her and Artemis walking actually.
