I'm pretty late to be saying this, but happy Easter, everybody! I hope you all got a bunch of candy.
And sure, candy is great and all, but let's not forget the real reason we celebrate Easter. If you're not religious, I don't mean to offend you or anything.
Jesus Christ died for our sins and salvation, and the purpose of today is to celebrate his ascension to Heaven to be reunited with his Father.
Today in church, my pastor told us the story of Mary going into the place where Jesus' body was and weeping when she found that it was no longer there. Two angels, one standing where Jesus' head would have been, and one by his feet, asked her why she was crying, and she explained that someone had taken her Lord away.
A man was standing nearby, and Mary, in her upset state, didn't recognise him. She simply thought he was the gardener. He asked why she was weeping, and she again said that someone had taken away her Lord. She asked him where he had taken the body, thinking that he had moved it, saying she would travel anywhere to find it in order to see Jesus' face again.
The man said her name, "Mary," and she immediately knew that he was Jesus. She hugged him and told him her relief in finding him, and he explained that he would be leaving again, and couldn't stay. He told her that he had to be reunited finally with his Father. He did so, promising that he would be back.
(This is majorly simplistic, I'm sorry.)
This holiday is beautiful, celebrating Jesus' life, not his death. Today we celebrate his reunion with God.
"He is risen; He is not here." -Mark 16:6
Just don't forget the true meaning of today. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! Enjoy the candy. ;)
