"Miss Momobami has slipped into a coma. She lost so much blood, we are currently doing transfusions and keeping her on IV. But she is suffering from internal bleeding and highly traumatic brain injury. The brain trauma is the cause. And-" the doctor took a breath. "-we don't know when she will come out."
Ririka gaped sharply, her lip trembling, a signal she was about to lose her composure again. "It could be for a few days, weeks, months- even years. But-" He abruptly took off his glasses, setting them on the table, and massaged his temples. There was even worse news to come, and everyone knew it.
Yumemi Yumemite, Yuriko Nishinotoin, Runa Yomotsuki, Mary, and Ririka all stood around the desk, waiting with bated breath.
"What?" Mary interjected sharply, hugging Ririka tighter. 'Would he just spit it out already?!?' The pigtailed-girl thought angrily. Next to her, blue-eyed girl buried her face into Mary's chest, letting out quiet sobs.
"There is a chance she could... not come out."
At this, Ririka's sobs grew louder, turning into wails and gasps. The ever-tiny Runa walked over and held Ririka's hand. Runa had been the twins' friend ever since they could remember, and had always been there for them. Ririka mentally thanked the shorter girl for the action. On the other hand, Yumemi and Yuriko, who hadn't known them very well, kept their eyes down at the floor out of respect.
"What chance is that?" Mary gritted her teeth.
"Our estimation... is 80% she won't live, 20% she will. I'm so sorry." The doctor gave a sympathetic look to the group. Nobody could be angry at him, the man was just doing his job. He probably dealt with cases like this on a daily basis.
"BEEP! BEEP! BEEEP!-"
Ririka sat next to the girl's hospital bed, staring blankly at the heart monitor machine next to Kirari's lying form. She gaze turned to rest on her sister's, and she gently took Kirari's hand in hers. She held it up with solely her own strength, the other twin's hand muscles were completely loose and cold as ice.
The girl's head was wrapped in bandages, her platinum hair loose from her usual hairstyle. Her arms lay with Band-Aids covering bruises and gashes, and an IV was inserted into her left arm. Her face was relaxed and loose, giving anyone the impression she was sleeping. On her forehead and the back of her head were stitches, holding together deep cuts.
Ririka couldn't see her sister's legs from underneath the bedsheet, but she knew they were wrapped in casts, up to the thighs from the breaks she received.
The platinum-haired girl smiled softly when she saw Kirari's signature sky-blue nail polish was still painted on her nails.
"H-hey, Kirari?" She spoke softly, posing a question the empty room. 'Please tell me you can hear me, please...' She mentally pleaded.
"Fight through this. Please."
She bowed her head down, resting her forehead on her twin's hand. "Don't make me stay here without you, you-you..." Ririka stuttered. "-you... stupid, stupid, crazy bitch."
"I certainly hope she won't, Miss Vice President," a familiar voice stated kindly. Ririka spun around, dropping Kirari's hand. The monitor beeped faster for a moment, signaling the girl's heart rate had increased. Ririka cringed.
Standing at the doorframe with an exquisite bouquet of sapphire-colored roses, was none other than Yumeko Jabami. "May I have a moment with the President?"
