It had been a week since Y/n and Bruno kissed, and neither of them had said a word about it. Not to the family, and not to each other.
For the most part, they went back to acting like best friends. Now that they knew where they stood regarding feelings for each other, neither of them knew what to do next. So instead, they danced around in circles, infuriating the Madrigals.
"If he doesn't ask Y/n out soon-" Mirabel cut herself off with a groan. She and Luisa were talking at the edge of the courtyard as they watched the two themselves stumbling through their usual awkward conversations with Abuela.
"I can't believe neither of them have made a move yet," said Luisa. "Tio's been out of the walls for a while now."
"Amazing, isn't it?" said Camilo, appearing behind them. "Adults are wasting their lives."
"Pffft, like you can talk. How's it going with Luis?" teased Mirabel.
"How's it going with your mystery person?" countered her cousin.
"I think you guys are getting a bit distracted from the couple we're supposed to be worrying about," interrupted Luisa.
"Has Dolores got any updates so far?" asked Mirabel.
"Nope. Then again, she probably wouldn't tell us if it was a private bet outside of the pool," said Camilo.
"Yeah, that's true. Can you run me through who bet one again, please, so I can know what I'm winning?" Mirabel requested.
"If you insist," said Camilo. "Mama and Papa bet together thirty pesos by the end of August, Dolores said twenty by the middle of August, Isabela put fifty by the end of July, I bet thirty a week into August, and you bet twenty anywhere into September. Anyone I'm forgetting?"
(Small A/N: I know I originally said that Dolores and Isabela's bet was over them getting together, but I've changed it to be the first kiss, since I know Camilo would be all over any betting being done.)
"Nope, I think that's it," said Antonio, who had been listening as well. He hadn't been allowed to bet, but he had been following the whole thing closely.
"So the winner gets one hundred and fifty pesos- I've never been more glad that they're clueless," said Mirabel.
Luisa snorted. She had decided not to bet, since she saw no point in risking money over her uncle's relationship, however awful it was to watch the two of them.
The cousins all quieted down as Y/n, Bruno, and Abuela headed towards them.
"What are you kids discussing over here?" asked Y/n.
"Nothing much," lied Camilo smoothly.
"Quite a big gathering for nothing much," said Abuela, raising an eyebrow.
"I promise, Abuela, we're not plotting any mischief. Luisa wouldn't allow it," Camilo assured her. Luisa rolled her eyes.
"If you say so," said Abuela with an unconvinced look. "I'll be going now, buenas tardes." She left up the stairs to her room.
"So, Tio Bruno," started Camilo. His bet was only two weeks out, and these two were gonna need a kickstart to get into that range. "How've you been, any people caught your eye recently?"
His uncle's face turned red, but he managed to say, "What makes you ask that, Camilo?"
"Oh, nothing," his nephew responded innocently. "You seem to have someone in mind, though."
"Whaaaaaat?" Bruno said. "No I don't."
"You're a terrible liar, Tio," said Antonio.
"Gee, thanks, kid," said Bruno dryly.
"For real, though, is there anyone? How do adults do dating?" asked Camilo.
"The same as you kids, except less flirting, I suppose," Bruno said.
"Why?"
"Why all the questions?" interrupted Y/n, giving Bruno a break.
"Just curious," said Camilo.
"Well, you can go be curious to your Mama and Papa," said Y/n. "If you want to study a good relationship, theirs is the perfect role model.
"Mama and Papa are boring and married, though," complained Camilo.
"Married doesn't mean boring. Now quit bothering your Tio," she said.
Camilo sighed and walked away. Antonio went up the stairs to his room, having lost interest in the conversation.
Mirabel wanted the opposite of Camilo. She wanted this to drag out at it's natural pace, so it would land where she expected it to. "Well, you two have fun, I'm going to go into town. You wanna come, Luisa?"
"Sure, why not," answered her sister, and together they headed towards the front doors of the Casita.
Time skip
A while later, Y/n and Bruno were sitting in Bruno's tower. Bruno had already gotten around to destroying most of the visions he had made copies of, but he had forgotten the one under his pillow.
Once they had both sat down on his bed, talking, Y/n felt something hard underneath the pillow. She reached underneath- and pulled out a vision.
Bruno caught his breath. He had forgotten all about that- and now you were looking at it.
Y/n was shook. Slowly, a smile spread over her face. She began to giggle, which soon evolved into full-blown laughter.
"Hey, what are you laughing at?" Bruno mumbled grumpily, his cheeks hot.
"Thi-this is what you were trying so hard to hide?" she hiccupped.
"I- well- yes.. I didn't think you would find it so funny, though," he said.
"I thought you had foretold your own death or something!" Y/n cackled. "You looked so grave and serious about it."
"I just didn't think you would like the idea-" he murmured.
That quieted Y/n down real quick. "Really? You thought I would be that upset by this?"
"I mean, I don't know, why would you want someone like m-"
"I'm gonna stop you right there," said Y/n, leaning over to put a finger to his lips. "You're the best friend I've ever had, osito, and the only person who's been there for me as long as I can remember. I can't think of a single person that I would want to kiss more than you."
Once Y/n's brain caught up with her mouth, her face turned bright red, and she moved to remove her hand from Bruno's face. Her eyes fell to the blankets. "I- uh- I mean-"
Before she could bring her hand back to her side, though, Bruno caught it. Y/n looked back to him, surprised at the sudden contact. Bruno looked strange. Something about him- he wasn't letting his anxiety hold him back right now.
He was determined to speak his mind, just this once. "Y/n, I never want to let you go. I've never wanted to leave your side, and every time I do I can only think of you until we're together again. I've never had the courage to say anything before, but I can't stand it anymore. I love you, Y/n. And I want to be yours, if you'll have me."
