Bruno's POV

No.. no this couldn't be happening..

Y/n thought that Bruno had done this- that he had left again. She loved Diego. And she had no hope of escaping his powers now.

Bruno didn't know how long he sat there, silently crying in his familiar room, hidden away from everyone as he had been for so long. He couldn't move anything, the ropes holding him were too tight. He could make no noise through the thick gag Diego had put in his mouth.

Was it some kind of cruel taunt that Diego hadn't just brainwashed Bruno as well? Had he meant to leave him with this despair, this hopelessness?

Footsteps entered the room, and Bruno was sure it was Diego, finally returning to take care of him. Honestly, Bruno welcomed it. Whatever Diego made him believe, it would take away this unbearable sadness.

Even if he were to be told that he wanted to flee the Casita and never come back, that would be some kind of mercy.

Bruno was surprised, however, when the one who came around the chair was not Diego, but Dolores.

She held one finger to her lips, as though he could say anything anyways through the gag. She glanced behind her, though Bruno was sure she was listening for Diego re-entering the passages.

Dolores bent down and quickly untied Bruno's gag, then got to work on his bindings. Her hands worked quickly, and soon he was free.

He stood up slowly, every muscle in his body sore. Then, he looked at Dolores. "You heard," he said.

He hadn't even dared to hope that Dolores had been listening, or that she hadn't already been bewitched by Diego.

"I did. Now come on, you can hide in my room." Dolores wasted no time grabbing his arm, pulling him hurriedly through the tunnels to the exit nearest her room. Bruno wasn't quite sure how she knew how to navigate the hidden paths, but perhaps she had used his heartbeat to get to him and was simply retracing her steps.

They made it to Dolores' room safely, and sat down at the back of it where they wouldn't be seen if someone walked in.

The room was nice, with calming brown walls and a window facing the village. The floor was carpeted in a nice, red rug that covered all but the edges of the room, and in the center of it was her bed, which was surrounded by thick, woolen curtains made to suppress noise, though it certainly couldn't block out everything Dolores could hear.

One one wall hung a painting in shades of gold and silver, and though it was abstract, it gave the feeling of music made into a visual representation.

Bruno rested against the wall, hidden from view of the door by Dolores' curtained bed, feeling drained. Y/n was already beyond his saving. He was sure now that his visions had been mistaken, and Diego had turned the future down a less clear path.

After all, how could such a thing happen now?

Dolores, however, moved with purpose. She sat down, looking him in the eyes alertly. "This is bad," she said.

Bruno laughed slightly, with no joy or humor. "Obviously."

"But there's a solution," Dolores continued stubbornly.

"I'll admit, I don't have a plan yet, but I'm sure we can think of one," said his niece.

"Do you know who we might still get to help us, by telling them about what he does?" asked Bruno.

Dolores thought for a minute. "Camilo, Mama, and Abuela certainly aren't safe, and I wouldn't count on Papa either. Tia Julieta and Tio Agustin were visited by him in the kitchen earlier, and he said some weird things I can now recognize as his power. Luisa and Mirabel were the ones to show him around the house, and I'm sure he messed with their minds. Y/n.. well..." Dolores stopped, seeing the despair that resurfaced in Bruno's eyes at the very mention of her name. "That leaves Antonio and Isabela."
