Violet and I sat through several more songs, mostly covers of songs by other bands, but a couple Violet told me were originals they had written that Sam had already told her about.
Every song took my breath away with how smoothly and precisely they performed it. Their movements, their timing, everything was incredible.
Josh's voice had me mesmerized from the moment they would start a song until the second it ended. It may have been the shock of hearing such a voice come from him or just the echo of the music in the garage, but it put me in a trance. It was a good thing they lived kind of in the middle of nowhere, playing this early in the morning.
After finishing the last song, with occasional breaks in between, we had been there for nearly two hours.
Josh walked over to us on the couch and sat next to me.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" He laughed.
"Are you kidding? Why didn't you ever tell me you could sing like that?" I asked, smiling.
"They already told you I sang. That is why you came over here, right?" He joked.
"Well yeah, no shit, but no one told me you sang like that," I replied. "That was incredible. I wasn't expecting it."
"What were you expecting?" He replied.
"I guess the kind of rock you hear on the radio." I said, "the more modern pop-rock. But that felt like I just got transported back in time forty years."
"Our parents raised us on that music. Music from their generation, so it's what we grew up learning." He replied.
"Well, it was amazing," I said, leaning farther back into the couch. "You shouldn't ever doubt the potential you guys have. Not many people could play that kind of music as effortlessly as you do."
Josh smiled and looked down at his hands entangled in one another on his lap.
"Thank you," he replied, looking back up at me.
I smiled down at him. Swarming my stomach were the familiar butterflies that often flew in when Josh looked at me like that.
"Hey, we gotta get going soon," Jake called out. Josh and I looked up. Sam and Violet had migrated to the other corner of the garage, and Danny had begun grabbing his stuff.
"Where are you going?" I asked Josh as he began to stand up.
"We're going on a little trip to our Aunt's house with our parents for the day." He replied.
"Yeah, and we're going to be late if you don't hurry up and help us," Jake said, wrapping some cords around his hands.
"Calm your tits," Josh replied, grabbing his keys. "I still have to take them home before we leave."
Sam and Violet said their goodbyes and I told mine to Jake and Danny.
When we got back to my house, Josh walked us to the door. I gave Violet my house key, and she went up to the porch.
"I'll meet you inside in a minute," I told her.
"Alright." She replied. "By Josh, thanks for the ride."
"No problem."
Violet walked in, shut the door, and I turned back to Josh.
"Thanks for the fun weekend." I said, "And for driving me around everywhere."
