My heart started racing as I pulled into my driveway, and my hands shook as I put the car in park.

Why is he here?

Violet was raging when she realized who it was standing on my porch.

"Who the fuck does he think he is showing up to your house without even saying anything to you first?!"

I couldn't muster up anything to say as I stepped out of the car with Violet in tow. Josh started down the stairs and into the now pouring rain.

"Josh, what are you doing?" I asked frantically and angrily, striding up in front of the porch steps, now soaking wet.

"I didn't kiss her,"

Josh had to practically yell over the rain beating down around us. He said it in a very distressed tone, letting his emotions take over and losing the calm demeanor.

I felt my body go numb.

"How did you know I-"

"Bullshit!" Violet yelled, walking around me and up to Josh, her hair soaked with rain.

"We know damn well what happened, so don't try and pull that." She said.

"I didn't." He said now calmly but forcefully. He looked from Violet to me, a desperate look in his eyes.

"I saw you, Josh," I replied, still angry, my voice faltered, and I felt tears well up. I was so full of emotion at that moment I didn't care. So much was being thrown at me all at once.

"Please let me explain." He begged, looking down at me in my eyes. I felt the tears falling now. He looked at me sympathetically as the rain beat down onto his head and shoulders. "Please," He said it quieter this time, almost in a whisper. I glanced over at Violet, looking at Josh with pure disdain.

I looked up at him for a moment, trying to read his face.

"Let's go inside," I said with a sigh, looking towards the door.

I walked past Josh and toward Violet, who had looked like I had just offered the devil a room to stay in. I unlocked the door, and we all walked inside, thoroughly soaking the floor.

I opened the closet closest to the laundry room connected to the kitchen, grabbing three towels.

"Give us a minute," I told Josh sharply, handing him one of the towels, never making eye contact. I spun around and headed to my room, followed by Violet. I shut the door and locked it.

"What. The. Hell." She said, looking at me, completely baffled.

"This is how I get my explanation," I replied smoothly, stripping off my soaked clothes and replacing them with dry ones. "Whether I like his reasoning or not, I want closure."

"Fine, understandable. But him showing up to your house?"

"Yeah, he better have a damn good reason for that one," I replied, walking to my bathroom and drying off my hair as best as possible. I glanced over at myself in the mirror. I had put on an oversized Nature Backs shirt and some athletic shorts, and my wet hair had already made the shoulders and back of the shirt wet.

Violet changed as well, mumbling incoherent curses under her breath as she did so.

I left the bathroom and went over to my closet, digging around for a bit. I pulled out my largest sweatshirt and a pair of my grandad's old beige cargo pants, and a pair of my socks.

"Don't tell me you're letting him wear your clothes." Violet protested.

"He's not sitting his soaking wet ass on my couch," I replied. "I'm just trying to be mature."

When I finally worked up the courage to walk out of my room and back into the front room, Josh was standing on the mat in front of the door, laying the towel on the ground where we had tracked water in.

When we walked back in, he looked up at me.

"Here," I said, handing him the clothes, "You already know where the bathroom is."

"Thank you." He replied, still looking at me. When I looked up at him to meet his gaze, it was like he was saying 'I'm so sorry,' instead of 'thank you' with his eyes. He made his way to the bathroom as I went over and took a seat on the couch next to Violet. She still looked pissed off, but much less than before.

"How does he even know that I know?" I said in a whisper as I looked over at Violet. Right at that moment, we both figured it out.

"Sam." We said in unison.

"I'm killing him next," Violet said, stretching out along the couch.

"I'm relieved, honestly." I continued in a whisper. "Now we can just get this over with."

"I really don't get what kind of explanation this boy could have," Violet said, laying her head on my lap.

"We'll see, I guess," I replied, closing my eyes, dread washing over me once again.
