The rest of that night flowed smoothly and effortlessly, leaving Violet and I much more comfortable about our 'hidden' relationships than before. Josh and Sam left late Friday night, to which my mother sighed her goodbyes and proceeded to immediately and ceaselessly go on about how fond she was of them both.

Saturday morning, I received a short and simple text from Josh.

Meet me here tomorrow at six pm?

The text was followed by a highlighted address that, when I clicked it, showed a random location off the side of a highway. The building shown on the map had no name and no real address.

What is this? I texted back

So many questions, just let it be a surprise again ;) Oh, and bring Violet.

His response left me rolling my eyes at my phone, annoyed by his inability to give details. Though I did find myself smiling faintly at his gesture, and I knew that if the surprise were half as great as the picnic, Violet and I would have the time of our lives.

I shut off my phone and tossed it onto the bed before trudging to the bathroom, where Violet had been for most of the morning.

I knocked gently, "Hey you almost done?"

"Yeah!" She voiced from behind the door. A second later, Violet swung the door open, nearly smacking me in the face in the process.

I dipped my head back in reflexive response.

"Watch it," I laughed. "Josh invited us to hang out tomorrow night if you're interested."

"At their house?" She asked.

"Not exactly,"

"Then where?"

I proceeded to pull up and show her the grainy, random complex building that appeared on the online map.

"What the hell is that?" She asked, squinting down at the image.

"I have no idea," I replied with a laugh, "he won't tell me."

"So I get to be in on the secret hangouts now?" She replied with a fond smile, "I'm in."

I laughed and closed out the tabs on my phone, "I'm assuming Sam is going if Josh asked me to bring you, so, double date?"

"God, I hope so," She replied, "being alone with both of you would be insufferable." She smiled and rolled her eyes in a jesting way, and I playfully pushed her arm.

The rest of the day was calm, spent mostly watching movies in the living room and trying the many pastries and sweets that Violet would cook up in the kitchen.

My mom was gone again until Tuesday on business, which left us alone once more. She promised to be home more often, and this time, I really did believe she would try.

Around midnight, I received another text from Josh,

Wear warmer clothes tomorrow, and maybe bring a blanket or two

' I decided not to voice my confusions and instead responded,

Ok :)

Violet and I had been on a sugar high from the number of sweet cakes and other baked goods she had made. This led to us not falling asleep until near four am.

"Hey, at least when we do wake up it will be closer to six pm," She joked, right before the foggy haze of sleep took us over.

Violet had been right; it was just past two pm when we woke up. We were groggy and irritable, as we usually were when we slept and woke up late. I had fallen asleep on the couch and ended up on the floor, leaving a painful cramp in my lower back.
