I sat with Violet holding me for a few more minutes until we separated, sitting cross-legged across from one another on my bed.
"I don't think you understand how angry I am." She said with a frustrated laugh. I just shrugged.
"We can't really do anything about it," I replied. "I can't confront him about it because I can't exactly admit that I saw him kiss someone after school after spying on him."
"Yeah, but I know something we can do," Violet responded, pulling out her phone.
"What are you doing?" I asked nervously. "Do not talk to him, please."
"I'm not, don't worry," she said as she tapped on her phone a couple of times.
"Then what are you doing?" I asked, trying to peer at her phone.
"I'm going to call Sam." She said, about to put the phone to her ear.
"Absolutely not," I replied, frantically grabbing for her phone. "That's just as embarrassing."
"I promise he won't judge your feelings at all." She said, setting her phone down. "He knows how you feel about Josh, and he'll be on our side and just as upset about this as I am. I just want to see if he knows about this girl or if Josh has mentioned her at all." She said, resting her hand on my knee. "Is it ok if I call him? I'll leave it on speaker right here so you can talk to him too."
I thought it over for a minute. I really didn't want to talk to anyone else about this, but Violet made a good point about asking him about the girl. That would help clear up some things.
"Yeah, call him," I replied.
She grabbed her phone back off of the bed, pulled up Sam's contact, and hit call. She turned on the speaker and set the phone back down on the bed between us as she propped her elbows onto her knees, resting her chin in her hands. I had my fingers intertwined in each other, pulling and rubbing at my fingers in nervousness.
The phone ran for a few more seconds before Sam picked up.
"Hey bug, what's up?" He asked.
"Do you know what your brother is up to?" Violet asked, annoyance creeping into her words.
"Um, Josh? He's at school probably doing some theater thing. Why?"
"Because your little prick of a brother was kissing some girl in the back auditorium room an hour ago." She replied, the annoyance in her voice turning to anger now.
"Wait, what?" Sam replied.
"Yep," I replied, sighing.
"She was staying after school to help with something for her teacher, and she went to the storage room connected in the back to the auditorium and in the crack of the door saw Josh and some girl kiss," Violet explained.
"What the fuck." Sam said, stretching his words. "Are you sure you saw Josh?"
"One hundred percent," I replied, rubbing my hands over my face.
"That makes no sense," Sam replied.
"Well, I don't know what the fuck he was thinking," Violet said, "But the next time I see his five foot six ass, I'm putting him on the floor."
"Oh, trust me, I am too," Sam replied, sounding pretty angry. "It's just so weird because he only talks about you." He said, addressing me.
"He hasn't said anything about another girl?" I asked, "No girl named Claire, or anything like that?"
"No, nothing." He said. "Just you and the many dates he had planned to ask you on.
His comment made butterflies creep into my stomach, but the feeling quickly dissipated, especially after realizing Sam said 'had planned.'
"Then why in God's name did he kiss some girl he's never mentioned or been seen with?" Violet asked.
"Beats me."
"I'm gonna beat him," Violet replied. "Just wait until I get my hands on that curly-headed bitch."
"Alright, save it for the ring McGregor." Sam joked. "I have to go help my parents move some furniture, but I'll text you tonight."
"Ok, I'll talk to you later," Violet replied as they hung up.
"I'm honestly just more confused." I said, "He's never mentioned anyone but me, and he was planning on asking me on dates?"
"I know." Violet replied, "He's one confusing dick."
