I made it through the rest of my classes without seeing Josh, passing the places we usually met up and walked to class, and getting to my art class early to avoid running into him on that hall.
Little attention was paid to my classwork, and I avoided conversations with my classmates. I just wanted to go home. It was exhausting to think that I would have to do this every day, avoid Josh and spend the entire day thinking about it.
As the final bell rang, I fled from the classroom and headed to my car. A notification popped up on my phone's screen as I drove home. It was from Violet.
I'm coming over
I was not about to protest. I needed the distraction again. It only took a couple of minutes before she pulled into the driveway next to me when I got to my house.
The two of us stepped out of our cars and walked over to each other.
"How was your day?" I asked groggily, pulling out my house key from my bag.
"Fine, other than when Mr. Sibbs almost sent me out for being late again. How was yours?"
In response, I dropped my head against the door and groaned in annoyance as I pushed it open.
"Yeah, that's what I figured." She said, grimacing. "Was it that bad?"
We stepped inside, and I flopped down onto the kitchen's barstool.
"Josh is still acting all friendly and buddy-buddy," I replied. "He even asked what I wanted to do this weekend."
"Ew, prick." She replied as she sat next to me, making a disgusted face.
"I've just been avoiding him all day," I said, "he's probably really confused why I've been giving him the cold shoulder."
"Let him be confused. Taste of his own medicine,"
I let out a laugh that probably sounded pretty forced as I walked over to the fridge, grabbing out an apple and throwing it to Violet and grabbing an orange for myself.
"I don't think I can keep this up," I said after a few minutes of us just picking at our fruit.
"What up?"
"Avoiding him. It's going to get exhausting." I replied.
"Then confront him. It's looking like that's the only solution."
"Oh yeah, I bet that conversation would go over great. 'Hey Josh, I heard you talking in when I was in the back storage room and spied on you long enough to see you kiss some girl, and that's why I'm not talking to you.'"
"Yeah, never mind, that does sound bad." She replied.
I flopped down onto the counter and groaned.
"I just need to know why he did it. That's what's killing me." I said into my arms. "Why would he get so close to me so fast and try to kiss me just to be kissing someone else without me knowing?"
"I wish I knew," Violet said, putting her hand on my back. "He's lucky he's not in a class with me. I would have lost it on him after too long."
This time, I let out a genuine laugh after picturing Violet screaming at a confused Josh in anger.
"So you and Sam?" I asked, a smile forming on my mouth as I sat my head up and pushed my hair back.
She looked over and smiled at me, which was nice to relieve the looming sense of negativity from the room.
"We're hanging out again tomorrow night." She explained, "We're going to the ridge near Harris park to stargaze."
"That sounds amazing," I replied, dragging out the last words. "Is he finally going to make you guys official, or is he just going to keep prolonging it." I teased.
