I nervously followed the group to a tea house.
Once inside they took me to a private booth in the inner most corner. None of the servers were there. The only people surrounding the booth were the masked group.
I couldn't see who was inside.
They motioned for me to go inside but didn't allow my guards to go in with me.
"Didn't you say I was allowed to take two guards?" I questioned them.
"Only till here. No one apart from you are allowed to meet our master."
I pursed my lips but didn't force the situation.
Leaving my guards outside, I took a deep breath and walked in with the Yueliang in my arms.
As soon as I was inside, the doors to the booth was shut close.
I was feeling extremely nervous. I couldn't stop my fingers from trembling, but I forced myself to keep an indifferent expression. Although, I didn't know if it was of any use.
Never in my two lives had I ever encountered such a situation.
While trying to relax myself, I started walking forward.
It was incorrect to call the space a booth, it was more like a private room. A large one at that. The whole place was covered in carpets and draperies of shades of magenta and violet.
There was a bed in the middle with lots of floofy pillows and cloudy quilts and blankets. But there was no one on the bed.
The whole place had a smell of medicine and a tinge of the sweet yet slightly nauseating smell of blood.
I turned around to the corner with a window and saw the "master" of this room seated on a large loveseat with a table full of snacks and two cups of tea.
Seeing me finally look his way he said, "Come sit."
I felt slightly embarrassed for losing myself in observing the room while blatantly ignoring the host, so I quickly trotted over and sat down on the single sofa opposite him.
I didn't quite have the courage to look at him in the eye, even though I wondered why his gruff voice sounded slightly familiar.
I kept my eyes trained at the snacks on the table.
There were all sorts of biscuits and pies and macarons and some other sweet treats that I didn't recognise.
My grip on the pot which held the Yueliang was getting tighter by the second, my fingertips were turning white and my heart was in my throat. I didn't even dare to breath loudly.
I was never a courageous person to begin with.
I wondered what all insidious plans this man must have for bringing a weakling such as myself into this isolated room.
But apparently he and I were not on the same wavelength.
"Don't be nervous, cough, I'm sorry if my subordinates scared you and your friends."
His words caught me off guard and I finally sneaked a peek at the man. I finally knew why he sounded slightly familiar.
It was the person I had crashed into during my brief period of espionage!
Perhaps my dumbfounded expression amused him because he let out a small chuckle. I could see his eyes crinkle with amusement.
Even now he was fully covered from head to toe, leaving only his steely grey eyes to tickle everyone's imagination.
