Sixth-year started rather well for Octavia since she had given up on Herbology and History of Magic. She wanted to give up on Potions too, but realizing she had been graded with Excellent Efforts proved her she could continue for two more years. At least it made her schedule lighter which meant she had more time to do nothing.
One afternoon as she was lying on a sofa of the almost empty common, trying to get some rest, she felt someone sit at her feet, then her feet being lifted up so the person could take a seat under them.
"What are you doing?" she asked, opening one eye to look at Regulus.
"How did you know it was me?"
"Almost everyone has classes at this hour. Except you because you were reading at a table still five minutes ago."
"Observant I see."
"Not as much as you," she snorted.
"Why?"
"Your eyes. Always on me. Creepily."
"It's just a way to ask you if you were thinking about our conversation," he only said, going back to his disinterested, distant attitude.
Octavia sighed and straightened up on a sitting position, but her legs not leaving his.
"You don't have to do this because I'm still thinking about you. Like you said... back when we had this argument... I can't help thinking about because you're inevitably part of my future whether I want if or no."
"So you're really thinking about this? I was sincere you know..." said Regulus, looking down at the floor, his raven curls almost hiding his face.
"Oh yes I noticed. You've never been so honest, it was one of the rare times when you showed something that wasn't disinterest..."
When Regulus turned his face to look at her, she had a small grin placed on her lips. Her hand went up to push away the locks hiding his face while he nodded.
"I should leave and think more about this," she then added.
Regulus' suggestion had stayed in her mind. She just wanted to ignore him and continue despising this boy. But seeing how much he was getting involved in this, trying to make this better for both them made her realize she had just been immature this whole time. She couldn't just merely ignore him and ignore the fact that he was really the person she was engaged to and that she didn't have a choice.
During the first week of October, Octavia was invited to Slug Club, the first dinner of the year. Lilah, Ivanna and herself were preparing up in their room, betting on what will Slughorn talk about and the new members. They were laughing and laughing and laughing too much that they were running late. Octavia was finishing putting on her makeup when she heard Lilah screamed it was 6:10pm already. The three girls ran together to Slughorn's office while laughing stupidly.
"Miss Flint, Miss Rosier, Miss Yaxley, I was getting worried you might not come," said Slughorn welcoming them as they were apologizing for their lateness. Three empty seats remained around the table and obviously, they were dispatched. Lilah's eyes crossed Octavia's and the blonde girl quickly moved to sit by Lily Evans' side. Octavia sighed cursed at herself internally as she should have been faster. Her eyes roamed the table again. Evan and Mason Yaxley, Lilah's brother were muffling their laughter on one side of the table.
Finally, Octavia went to sit down between Regulus Black and Severus Snape. It could have been better. Ivanna in front of her looked rather uncomfortable between two fifth-years from Ravenclaw.
"Are you okay my boy?" asked Slughorn as he looked worried at Mason who was still laughing.
"Yes, I just need a drink," replied the blonde boy, quickly grabbing his pumpkin juice to calm down.
