As it was getting colder and darker, the boys decided to go inside after some hours.

They were arguing over who had won as they ate the snacks the family elf prepared. Octavia joined them soon after to eat with them and listen to the debate. It was very funny to witness. Each boy said he won and tried making rankings over who scored the most and Octavia was just laughing while sipping on her hot chocolate. When the food was eaten, they went separate ways.

Octavia invited Regulus in her room for the rest of the evening and couldn't help wondering what he wanted to talk about initially.

"So what did you want to talk about?" she said after a while. She was back at her desk while he was sitting on her bed. It had been silent until now.

"I've been thinking of something lately."

She hummed, waiting for him to continue.

"I was thinking of defecting."

The girl turned around as he spoke the words and stared at him, not hiding her shock.

"You mean..?"

"Yes, I want to quit the Death Eaters," he admitted, looking her in the eye.

"Merlin's beard... I would have never expected this turn of things..."

"Yeah, I really don't want to be with them anymore. And you're the only person I can tell about it because this is about our future and I wanted to be honest with you on this."

"And I appreciate your honesty, I'm just surprised and... wait... this means you and I we will be..." she wondered, her eyes widening as the realization hit her.

He nodded his head slowly, his lips forming a little smile and a glint of excitement lit up her pupils.

"I promised you didn't I? I won't break this promise."

"You're being serious?" she asked as joy took over her and a large smile crossed her face.

"Of course I am," he told her, shrugging nonchalantly.

Without even thinking she threw herself in his arms, in a spontaneous move. It surprised them both and she detached quickly but wouldn't stop smiling nonetheless.

A few days passed by until it was time to attend the annual year-end party. It was at the Yaxleys' place this year. Tabatha Yaxley seemed absolutely delighted to have all those people in her house, complimenting her decoration, telling her so many good things about that beautiful large house which was also old and boring as Lilah would say. And Octavia was currently with her, in the girl's bedroom which they haven't left in a while. Octavia actually came earlier to prepare up and they thought they could stay a little longer. Who would notice their absence anyway, both their parents were too busy. But of course someone had to come get them at some point.

It was Regulus, surprisingly.

"Mother was wondering why you weren't there," he simply muttered.

"Huh? That woman has an obsession with me!" exclaimed the girl in irritation before letting out the longest sigh.

"She's making sure we're still together..."

She didn't say anything on his choice of words and simply walked to his side and grabbed his arm, dragging him outside the room. They were closely followed by Lilah who observed the exchange while wearing the faintest smile. They told each other everything and it was impossible for the red-head to hide that she had slept with Regulus. Octavia seemed strangely happy so Lilah could only be happy too. And right now when witnessing how naturally close she was to him, her heart beamed with joy again.
