The dinner was ended in a much calmer atmosphere where the adults only talked about useless things such as gossips in the Ministry, the news, how superior they were and the pride they took in it. When Regulus and Octavia said their goodbyes to everyone, they were left together.
"You still have your stuff in my room."
"Hm, I know."
She disappeared. He followed her. And they were back in his room.
"What did you talk about with Cissy?"
"I just asked for her opinion. I think I needed the point of view of someone who went through this already. This was enlightening, somehow. Even if nothing changes and my life is still the same life that I was living this morning and it will be the same in the next months. And now we even have a wedding planned."
"The wedding was always planned..."
"But can you imagine, you and me, getting married? Especially me, marrying, at the age of 18 only! I'm really not ready for that."
"Me neither," only said Regulus. It was true he didn't look enchanted, he just knew it was about to happen.
Silence fell on them again and the boy spoke up when she said nothing.
"Are you sure you're doing better? You can stay for the night if you want."
The girl looked up at him upon hearing the proposition. She looked him in the eye, in those beautiful silvery eyes that held a glint of hope as he awaited her answer. She smiled.
"If I want? Or if you want," she wondered, trying not to sound too teasing as her smile grew larger.
And in the end, he smiled too. "I admit I would feel relieved if you weren't spending the night alone."
"So you don't exactly want to spend the night with me, you just want me to have someone with me for the night. How nice of you. But you could have said it, if you wanted to spend the night in my company. I would have said yes."
She was sincere in her voice and words. One moment she was rejecting him, the next she wanted to be with him. Her thoughts were so messy, she didn't know what she truly wanted, what she truly felt, but she was confusing herself more than Regulus all this time.
A smile broke onto his face. He couldn't contain it. He hadn't realized seconds had passed when her voice interrupted his reverie.
"Do you have something for me to wear for the night?"
"Uh? Hm, yes."
He went through his closets as the girl tried to fight the smile threatening to show. He threw her a woolen sweater, that seemed warm and comfortable. And right away she walked up to him, her back facing him.
"What?" he asked, dumbfounded.
"I need you to undo the zipper, please."
"Oh, sure."
His hand got on the zipper and undid it. He got to have a glance at the milky skin of her back and didn't dare looking further down. She walked away as she started removing her dress. Regulus watched in shock as she slowly unveiled her body under his eyes, not caring a little bit about his presence.
"Wait! Wait! What are you doing?" he blurt out in confusion.
The girl hugged the cloth close to her chest as she turned her head towards him, and with a little laugh she said, "What? First time you see a girl undressing in your room?"
He flushed at her words and tore his gaze away. She just smiled, pleased by his reaction to her little teasing. And then she finished by removing her bra before wearing the sweater. She felt very comfortable and didn't mind Regulus' stare. She wouldn't do that with anyone but she knew he wouldn't look, without her even telling him to.
