Trigger warning: Abuse

"Your late." My new professor says to me after I hurried into the doors of the uni room. The class is packed with people ranging from all ages. I guess everyone wants to be a nurse. My chest is heaving up and down as the attention is all onto me. Most people just stared at me, my face was probably red as I can feel a burning sensation linger on them. I tightened the grip on the brown leather satchel hanging on my shoulder, my palms sweating making hard. "Sorry Miss." I replied with my voice a little too soft. She gave me an annoyed look as she said quickly, "hurry up find a seat."

A sense of relief washed over me not realising my breath stopped, that was the exact answer I needed. First of all I don't like the attention and second of all my legs feel like there about to snap due to the excessive running I did to get here.

The room is massive, a whiteboard at the front where my professor stood. A projector screen on top of the whiteboard. The seats are set out like a cinema but instead of comfy chairs it was the plastic chairs. Reminding me of high school. I walked up a couple of the steps and walked along a line of chairs to the nearest spare seat. I sat down on the chair and opened my satchel grabbing a notebook and pen. I placed the satchel at my feet as the lecture continued her teaching.

The lecturere bored me. Her voice monotone. I'm really wanting to quite uni right now. But yet again it's like my first class. Oh lord please help me.

I hear a soft voice  to beside me saying "hi, my names Cathalina." I turned to my right to see who I suppose Cathalina to be. She had bright blue eyes and light skin with a little sun kissed tan. Dark black hair that was mid length and full lips. She smiled at me.

"Hi I'm Mia." I replied with something... short. "She's mean to everyone." Cathalina said. "Who is?" I asked. Cathalina pointed to our professor. I think that she's just having a bad day right? \

"Probably just a bad day." I replied with. She gave me an uncertain look. She asked "first year of uni isn't it."

"Yes... Is this your first year?"

"No. I actually studied at Princeton for a while then decided it was better if I moved to Harvard. Way more opportunities. "

"I agree, the courses are better here than Princeton."

"Yep...Do you want to get coffee late, we can goss about the teacher?"

"Sure."

The lecture was one and a half hours. It was long and painful mainly going over how to monitor medications when being a nurse. Cathalina and I ended up going to a cafe down the street from Harvard. We ordered our drinks and sat in a booth. We are throwing questions at each other like a war zone. I've learnt that we like the same things. Such as having a like for dancing. I told her that I worked at a bookstore to gain the extra money for tuition. Cathalina laughed saying that she isn't really the type for books and reading. Cathalina is like those popular girls that you wish you could be for a day. "What about your family?" Cathalina asked while she took a sip of her coffee.

"Ummm... I have two sisters Amelia who is 24 and Isabella who is 25... I'm the youngest , Amelia is the middle child and Isabella is the oldest. My mum Sadie and dad Ben have divorced Ben is in Australia and Mum is living in America here actually." I circled the tip of my finger out the lip of my coffee mug,  "Umm... Amelia lives with her husband in Canada and Isabella lives here in the US and is a successful business woman. I've always looked up to her. I used to live with my uncle because mum kicked me out of their house when I was 18 to apparently 'get used to the US" and my sister Isabella is too busy to have me at her house....Ummm.... also my uncle died 1 year ago so I've been managing."
