Y/N had just moved to Encanto to escape her home life, along with her mother and little brother. Encanto had already felt like a dream, how much better could the fun-loving shapeshifter make her introduction to the village?
On the other hand, how m...
It had been days since you've seen the sun glistening on a paved road. The sound of hooves finally created a different noise, one that did not irritate you. You took a deep breath, taking in everything around you.
The unfamiliar townspeople stared at you and your family, which was expected, but there was not an ounce of judgement in their eyes. More so as if you have piqued their interest. It felt welcoming.
It felt warm.
That was not expected.
It was mid-day, no later than 1 o'clock. You made it to the Inn with plenty of time left for the sun in the sky.
The middle-aged innkeeper examined your family before raising an eyebrow.
"Hola, I've never seen you lot around here," he said before extending his hand to your mother.
"Benjamín. Benjamín Moreno."
Your mother graciously returned her hand with no hesitation. "M/N, L/N!" she happily introduced herself. You've never seen her so full of life.
"These are my kids, Y/N and Gabriel." While she introduced you and your brother, you took a confident step forward and raised out your hand with a friendly smile. He nodded at you and held out his.
Once your mother had finished making small talk and sealed the room arrangements, Benjamín handed her the key to your temporary space. You still had to sort out permanent living quarters thus-far.
You felt at warm peace settling into an environment where you didn't have to be stepping on eggshells. You wanted to hold onto this feeling and bask in it.
You were.
That is until you were interrupted by the impatient pacing of your brother.
"Gabriel, what is up with you manito?" You exasperated, feeling regretful after you realized you had raised your voice.
"I only wanted to see the town, but mami is too busy," he said dejectedly, giving you disingenuous puppy dog eyes. You harshly glared at him for a few moments, wondering how he could possibly have any energy.
You gave in after he started to plead, saying "please" over and over directly into your ear. Besides, you wanted to explore too.
"Okay, okay, slow down conejito (little bunny)! Let me just grab my things," you assured him.
There's no better time than the present, I guess...
- 10 minute time jump -
"Gabriel!" you shouted from the door. "I'm going to leave without you!" you playfully exclaimed. You soon heard your brothers' footsteps booming down the staircase.
"I'm ready I'm ready!" He called out as he ran out the door before you. You tightened your yellow bandana as you briskly ran to catch up to him.
The alive streets of Encanto were astounding. Everyone was familiar with each other, waving and exchanging nods and glances. There were even a few acknowledging nods in your direction, even though you were strangers to them.
You couldn't help but smile. You already felt at home.
Every road bloomed with colour, music playing every corner we took. It was of something straight out of a movie.
As you were occupied inspecting the beautiful architecture and waving to the locals, you felt an indistinct tug on your sleeve. You quickly spun around to see your little brother looking straight ahead in complete awe. Your face turned puzzled, until you discerned what he was looking at.

The Madrigals!
You had gotten so swept up that the most salient family of this village had completely slipped away from your thoughts. A family that you and your brother had spent hours raving about on the journey here. One that you questioned... even existed.
You pointed at the larger woman on the far right and turned to Gabriel. "Look Gabriel! That must be your Luísa," you said nudging him. He was starstruck.
Your attention quickly turned to the painted boy on the far left. Elegantly portrayed with tight curls and a yellow ruana, looking to be about your age.
El nieto, the grandson! That must be Camilo.
You held forth your hand out towards his depiction, as if there was a powerful magnet pulling you closer, unable to step away. You examined every line.
"The shapeshifter?" Gabriel noticed your pull towards the painting of this boy. His questioning words pulled you out of your trance-like state.
"I think so. It would make the most sense," I added.
"I hope I get to meet him," your brother said eagerly.
"Well, who knows manito... maybe you already have!" You jumped with emphasis on the last word and twirled around in front of the painting, pretending to shape shift as Camilo. Gabriel cackled at your impersonation, which encouraged you to continue.
You carried on, doing arbitrary whirls, entertaining your little brother, until suddenly...
SMACK
You got sucked into the moment and had not been acutely aware of your surroundings.
You just struck a passerby.
Quickly, you broke character and rushed over to whoever was the victim of your, originally harmless, playful act. When the adrenaline of the moment subsided, you noticed a hint of familiarity.
A boy with tight brown curls and a yellow ruana.
Is that...
The boy turned around to face you, disorienting you with his gold tinted eyes. Massaging his jaw from the impact, he shot you a dare-devilish smirk and opened his mouth to speak.
"Not bad."

Sorry you had to get through so much before Camilo showed up, I just really wanted to create a solid backstory for it to feel more immersive! Aren't you glad you waited, though? Enjoy!
