May I?

You hadn't realized your eyes were following him. That is until he looked back at you, making accidental eye contact. You quickly averted your gaze. You put your hand to your forehead and sighed, feeling a small smile paint your lips.

After numerous chit-chats, countless introductions and tedious questions, you began to hear the echoing of a drum beat. Guests trudged before you, out into the main hall. You followed suit, assuming that something of importance was beginning.

You scanned through the gathered crowd to the staircase, where a little boy timidly stepped out into the spotlight, all eyes on him, watching his every move. He seemed to be about Gabriel's age.

He reached out his hand, looking behind the curtain, out of your view. You saw Mirabel reveal herself, taking the hand of this shy child. They slowly treaded the Casa brick floor to the gleaming door as if it was this boy's wedding day.

Your eyes were fixated on this little boy, wrapping his small fingers around the golden doorknob.

Without thinking, your gaze wandered around the surroundings at the top of the staircase. You were not simultaneously intending to find anything, or anyone, but your eyes had still managed to fall upon Camilo Madrigal.

Worried that he would return the stare, you quickly tore your eyes away.

Anything. Anything else would be better than wanting to look at him right now.

You attempted to keep yourself from taking another peek, but it was to no avail. You rested your eyes on him once again, just as fast as you pulled them.

You saw a gleam softness in his eyes from below the stairs, a side of him you have yet to see. You studied his face like you studied the lines of his painting. He looked proud.

Your focus was broken up when a swarm of animals slipped under your feet, running into the newly curated room that the little boy had opened.

In some sort of connected harmony, everyone began making their way up to this room, anxiously waiting to get a look inside. As you finally made it to the entrance through the shuffle of the village, you saw Mirabel politely greeting people as they stepped in. Her face lit up when she saw you.

"Y/N! We meet again," she said with an enthusiastic tone.

"So we do," you replied. Mirabel nodded her head in the direction of the room.

"Shall we?" she asked, as you begun to walk alongside her.

"La familia Madrigal!"

At the same moment you saw the flash of a camera, you saw Mirabel's face dropping with an immense sadness. You couldn't catch the breath to ask her what was wrong before she glared up at you to speak.

"Hey actually, Y/N, I'll be right back, okay? Go, enjoy the party!" She gave you a weak smile before turning and walking out the door. You worried for her, but respected that it was probable she wanted some space. You just met her, after all. You didn't want to push your luck.

Enjoy the party.

In an effort to do as Mirabel told you, you hauled yourself over to where you heard vibrant, full music and the mingling of pounding feet against ground.

Your aim wasn't to dance, no. You couldn't dance, or at least never wanted to, but you could appreciate the artistry of creating and playing music. (Song to feel more immersed in the story, play it while reading if you wish!)

No dancing, just listening.

That didn't last long.

You felt the light graze of soft skin upon your hand from behind, pulling you out onto the floor.

You jerked your gaze in front of you, Camilo leading you into a dance. "What exactly do you think you're doing?"

He looked at you, a playfully mischievous hint to his eyes. "What, you don't like to dance?"

"Not quite," you stalled your answer, "it would be in your best interest to keep me off of this dance floor. Your toes will get hurt".

He made a clicking sound through his teeth and grinned. "Relájense (loosen up), I'm sure you're fine, just like this," Camilo began leading your footing, sending you into a light twirl.

"You see?" he said as you regained your original position. Even though you rolled your eyes, you bit back a smile. The last time you danced with someone was years ago, when you were but a child.

You fixed a look on his face, but not directly into his eyes. "So, you need something, or..?"

He jokingly scoffed. "I can't just have a dance with a charming dance partner?"

"You could, but are you?" you replied, this time looking to his eyes.

"You know me too well already." His gaze locking with yours, he continued. "But I want to know you," he added. "Tell me another fact about the mysterious, new girl Y/N."

"Isn't it only fair if you tell me something first?" You decided to challenge him instead of giving in.

He shot you a faint smirk. It was as if banter was his favourite pass-time. "We could play 20 questions?"

You gave him a sigh.

"Alright, alright. Let's see..." he caved to your question. "You could say I don't have many... close connections. Outside of this family, of course."

Your face leaked with confusion. "You?" you said in response. How could someone like him not have any close friends?

"The charmer, I know, I know," he replied, amused with himself.

"Well, don't get ahead of yourself." You shot him a sarcastic glance.

He kept his self-amused smile and locked eyes with you once more. "It's worked on you though, hasn't it?"

Your cheeks flushed, breaking his shackling stare by looking off to the side. He let out that, now familiar, dreadful chuckle. "Your turn."

He held you in a dip, waiting for your answer.

Before you could reply, a voice could be heard struggling over the music. You and Camilo both turned your heads. You saw Mirabel darting towards her family, calling out.

"The house is in danger!"
