Sylvia almost reached the entrance door when she heard someone call her name from behind. She recognised the voice and smiled gleefully at her best friend Lily who ran towards her cheerfully. Lily was very immature and silly blonde haired girl who had been around Sylvia since the day she was born. Her friend had been there for here to comfort her during her mother's death, she was there for the silly times when they both would do some stupid things together and they always got away with it. Lily was a friend who'd stick with you through thick and thin and Sylvia cherished her for it.

Lily went over her hand over her neatly ironed uniform and took a deep breath exhausted from the running." How was your weekend?"

"Great" she linked her hand with Lily's

"I heard both you and your Dad went to Dubai to spend the weekend" she said

"Yes we did and it was great fun... until this morning that is" Sylvia mumbled that last part to herself.

"Hm?"

"Oh just how fun my weekend was." Sylvia fast paced towards the welcoming doors of the school hallway to the next question her best friend might throw at her.

Lily caught up to her. "Are you sure? You seem rather upset "

"I'm fine." Sylvia walked even faster.

Lily was basically running to catch up with Sylvia " I've known you well enough to know when something is wrong with you."

Sylvia slowed down her pace and opened her mouth to speak when she was interrupted by a friend.

"Hey you two " Jane smiled.

"Jane!" They both chorused in unison, shocked.

Jane was the second best friend of Sylvia but equally cherished. Both Lily and her had met Jane the first day they had been transferred to Maxwell high and they were both charmed by the very simple and secretive person.

"Why do you both sound surprised to see me? I do go to school here you know" She continued walking with them further down the hall.

"You're early" Lily said.

"You're never early " Sylvia added.

" What's the special occasion? " Lily teased her suspiciously.

Jane played along. "Come on girls, I've always been early"

"Oh is it your twin who walked late into chemistry class last Friday?" Sylvia said

"That was just once" Jane answered.

"I can name many more occasions that happened" Lily elbowed Jane playfully.

"Let's go to class please " Jane closed the topic.

Sylvia was grateful Jane popped in the conversation or else Lily would still be interrogating her. One thing Sylvia wanted to avoid was making her cheerful friend worried. She preferred her happy mood as it suited her best.

Suddenly they heard squealing and all the girls surrounding them could barely hold in their swooning.

Sylvia Sylvia didn't need to turn to know who the girls were going crazy for, but she turned anyway. Walking towards her was every girl's dream-boyfriend Jack Brooke, with his brown silky hair ruffled in a bad boy manner and caramel eyes that every girl seemed to be crazy about.

Every girl except from Sylvia that is.

And then there was his natural charms like beeing good at every sport. Football, soccer, swimming you name it, he was literally a sport Lord and the top student of Maxwell high.

But despite his good qualities, Sylvia had a good reason for disliking him. If she was a top student her was "the" top student which instantly made her number two. And to Sylvia number two might as well be the last spot. Then there were all the sport she was good in and he just happened to overshadow her. And my god, she hated that. She desperately wanted to prove that she can be as good as him.

Jack approached Sylvia with a taunting smile. " Having a good morning Sylvia?

Talking to her made everyone stop and stare.

Sylvia did not show weakness. "You know I was, until I saw your face that is, so do me a favor , and go to hell"

All the girls made a sound of disappointment but Jack chuckled in amusement. "If I did who would steal the hearts of the girls"

Annoyingly all the girls squealed in response.

Jack raised his finger playfully. "Oh I completely forgot to ask you ,when are you going to have your own car and stop making your chauffeur drive you all the time? Last time I checked you're the only student with no car of your own. Actually don't worry. I'm a gentleman and I, Jack Brooke, will become your personal driver so give that man a rest."

Some girls ignored his snotty remarks and awed while others snickered along.

Refusing to stoop to his level Sylvia folded her palm into a fist and walked away in frustration, followed by her best friends. She couldn't believe she let him get under her skin.

"Don't act like that honey" He called out but she wasn't in any mood to pick a fight.

Jack watched her stomp away and he smiled amused. He loved frustrating her because he knew she had guts. No else would be able to pick a fight with the son of a business tycoon unless they had guts. And she did.

Jack made his way down to his locker. This day could not go any better he thought.
