Ophelia Martin never really liked roses, like her mother. Why?, Because she always saw her mother's face in the petals. It's mostly the pretty things that damage you for the rest of your life. By disguising themselves to drag you in and blind you with their beauty.

Ophelia laid on her bed staring at the ceiling. It was so quiet you could hear the crickets chirping. She could hear the soft sound of the fan blowing. The bright moon light shone through her curtains, she closed her eyes and let the darkness take over her.

"Ophelia dance with me"her mother cooed.
"Mom" Ophelia rolled her eyes with a massive smile on her face.
"Come on lia" her mother smiled. She wrapped her arms around her mother and swayed to the soft music in the background.
"Wake up" her mother spoke.
"What?" Ophelia asked confused.
"I said wake up".

Ophelia opened her eyes to be face-to-face with her cruel sister, and not her actual sister, more so the sisters at the orphanage. She looked down and saw, instead of her mother was a pillow wrapped tightly in her arms.

Ophelia stood up and quickly made her bed. She suddenly got dragged away by her hair.
"Ow" she hissed
"Shut up and get in there" the sister yelled, and shoved her in the basement. This was a punishment the kids would get if they didn't wake up on time.

She leaned against the cold wall and slowly slid down it, while tears streamed down her face and only soft cries were heard.
"Mom why'd you leave me" she whispered.

~~~
It had been an hour since she got thrown into the basement. She hasn't eaten for days. Or even showered. She whipped her head up to the sound of the doors screeching open. She shot up and stood extremely still.
"Get out. hurry up" The sisters were standing there with scowls on their faces. Ophelia quickly walked out and up the stairs. She was met by the other children all lined up waiting to be counted.
"We're missing one" the lady calls.
"She's here miss" one of the sisters called out and shoved Ophelia forward. She quickly got in line with the other kids and looked down.
When the counting finished they were lead into the front yard. There was a big electric fence wrapped around the orphanage building so no one could escape. But every morning at 11:00 am they would open the gates to let people in, who would want to adopt or visit a child.
But the kids would all be locked up inside one of the rooms so they couldn't escape.
The children had the job of watering the plants or cutting the grass. With scissors. Ophelia however was building up the courage to do what she has been planning on the entire time here.
Escape.
