The cool breeze crashed against Ophelia's body like a wave of sensation. She was running. Free. Happy. She ran into her mothers arms. Her mother's beautiful face was filled with colour and life, her pretty brown hair with highlights blowing in the wind, her gorgeous blue eyes shining brightly in the sun. Her body was warm against Ophelia. She held her mother tightly.

Not any more.

When she saw her mother on the floor overdosed, she saw how her eyes were a very dark shade of blue. Her face was pale and her body was cold. Ophelia's tears stained her mother's bright yellow shirt. Her mother's body was so cold it's sent shivers up Ophelia's arm while she held onto her.

Her heart felt like ice. When you put it on your skin you can't feel anything at first and then it starts stinging and everything goes numb.

"Ophelia?"
"Ophelia!, watch out"
"Quick grab her!"
"Help!"
Was the last thing she heard until everything went black.

As Ophelia lifted her head, she saw an angel standing upon her. "Heaven... Or hell?." The angel asked. Ophelia smiled jokingly and said hell.... Once she arrived, she heard someone say something behind her.
"Finally, someone! A friend!." The devil smiled brightly.
"What do you mean? Why are you here by yourself?" Ophelia asked confused.

"Well, everyone picks heaven, so I don't really have any friends." The devil shrugged.
"Oh." Ophelia looked down a weird feeling of guilt overcoming her. She felt almost... sorry for the devil. After a few minutes of silence, Ophelia lifted her head to say something.

"I'll be your friend" she smiled.
"What?- why- why would you want that?" The devil's eyes widened. Ophelia looked into the devil's eyes. She saw.... Was it
Hope? Sadness?.... innocence?. She saw it all.

"There's a reason why your a devil" she whispered softly. She turned her head to the left and saw a wet stoned wall. She trailed her eyes down the wall and saw, a tiny beautiful red rose. One of her mother's favourites.

"Do they not love you? Do they think your evil because that's what's carved into their brain. Devils are the evil ones, and angels are... good?" She asked him.
"Do they think just because your a devil, your going to hurt them? Torture them? Punish them?." Ophelia whispered. She traced her hand along the wet wall.

"I don't want to hurt them" the devil whispered.
"I know." Ophelia went to touch the devil but her hand went right through him. They both stood in silence for a minute. Until Ophelia spoke again. Her next words echoed in the devil's mind.

"Even the devil needs a friend"
