Jace was sitting in his office when he heard the door knocking.

"Come in" he said in a loud voice. The door opened and both Lucas and Avery stepped inside.

"What's wrong?" Jace asked them, burrowing his brows.

"We need to talk, Jace and it's really important." Lucas stated to which Jace nodded and gestured for them to sit.

"What is it?" Jace asked as he closed his laptop and gave them all his attention.

"Well...Jace...We need your help." Lucas said, "Avery is alive."

"This better not be a joke, Lucas." Jace responded sternly.

Lucas shook his head and said, "It's not" before turning his head to stare at Avery who sigh, "I'm Avery."

"What?!" Jace asked, almost shouting in disbelief.

"You heard me right." Avery replied, "I'm Avery lightwood and I was never dead."

"Why...didn't you tell me who you really are?" Jace asked, confused. He was really happy to know that Avery was still alive and was right in front of him but he was also disappointed that she didn't tell him.

"I didn't want anyone to know that I'm still alive." Avery responded, "For my own safety and yours- beside, You wouldn't have liked who I've become, Jace."

"What are you talking about, Avery? Become like what?" Jace asked, still confused.

Avery didn't reply- instead, she took out the knife she had her initials on and placed it on the table, in front of Jace.

Jace picked up the knife and examined it for a few seconds before his eyes fell on the initials.

"Y-you're her." He stuttered, probably for the first time ever. To say that he was surprised would be an understatement.

Avery nodded slightly, "So...wanna hear the whole story?"

"Go ahead." Jace said, gesturing for her to start. Avery took a deep breath before telling him the entire story.

How she met Jackson, how she was trained, how she became the best, how the was supposed to marry Ryan and how she learnt about the marriage. She also told him how he escaped and...that the Mexicans are looking for her.

"That's it." Avery said, once she was done. Jace was surprisingly quiet, trying to process everything that he just heard.

"So I want to question my uncle and get answers from him because I know that he didn't do what he did only because of hatred- I mean, come on! If I hated someone, I wouldn't kill him and his entire family!" Avery added.

"So...you were Ryan's fiancee?" Jace asked, his voice came low.

"No!! I was only sixteen for fuck's sake! I ran away when he tried to get...you know...physical." Avery mumbled the last part.

"My entire mafia is at stake with you here, Avery. If any of my men finds out about that little past of yours- they're gonna see you as the enemy." Jace spoke.

"Do you?" Avery asked before rephrasing, "Do you see me as the enemy?"

Jace sighed before replying, "Yes, I do. What else do you want me to say, Avery? You kept your identity from everyone, entered this house as Diana then as Ava...because you wanted to question Vincent. He's your uncle- you might have come here to rescue him for all we know."

"So- you don't trust me?" Avery asked to which Jace shook his head, "I see you as a threat."

"What the hell Jace?!" Lucas asked, standing up from his seat abruptly- making the chair fall.

"What do you mean? She worked with the Mexicans for I don't know how many years! She probably was sent here by them to free Vincent- after all, she is his niece." Jace said, glancing at Avery who stayed quiet.

"Are you fucking kidding me right now?! She ran away for fuck's sake! She is my sister and I believe her." Lucas said, trying to keep his calm.

"Sorry about that, Lucas but I need to do what's best for my empire. Avery,I don't want to keep you in the dungeon, so- leave this place and go far from here, before I change my mind." Jace said to Avery.
