Chapter 8
Talk
I never dared to take a glance at him. I stayed silent and continue to cry silently as I watch the waves hit the shore.
“You looked really sad. Can I do something to make you feel okay?” he probed as he looked at me intently.
He looks too powerful and simply dangerous while sitting beside me.
“Okay, I am not gonna force you but I am willing to listen.”
“We just had a small...” tumikhim ako at napayuko, my tears fell as my lips quivering because of kept sobs. “Small fight, yeah.”
He laughed kaya napatingin ako sa kaniya. His messy hair was blown by the cold wind that made him look sinfully gorgeous.
“Sorry,” aniya at ngumiti. “Small fight? Shouldn’t you be talking to your husband about it?”
Nag-iwas ako ng tingin. He has a point, but I was just too embarrassed to talk about it. Ayaw kong umiyak kapag nag-usap kami ni Maxus tungkol doon. Even when it was all over, the pain still lingers.
Parang kahapon lang nangyari lahat ng iyon. The way he yelled at me, how those hands gripped my wrists tightly leaving some bruises and marks on my skin, I could not forget it no matter how hard I try.
I sighed and drew cricles on the sand. I smiled bitterly. Alam kong nakikinig siya kaya nagpatuloy ako.
“We were not in good terms. Nito lang siya naging mabait sa akin. Usually, he would just glare at me if he didn’t like what I did, or if I did something wrong. He rarely goes home, kahit wala na siyang trabaho. We live under the same roof but we barely see each other, nor talk and eat together. He does everything just to stay away from me or, he pushes me away using his harsh words and actions. He was like that.”
“Stop crying, I can’t take it.” “I remember my cousin in you. But she’s bubbly, loud, and a brat. What my other cousin didn’t notice that she was like that because it was her defense mechanism. She’s afraid that when she stopped being cheery and loud, everyone might leave her.”
“She made a mistake. And she thinks we hate her now. She ran away from us instead of letting us in. She never dared to speak up to us about it and we lost contact with her. I don’t want you to regret not talking to your husband to settle all your problems. She could have trust us, you know. Whatever she did wrong, it will never change the fact that we love her.”
“You should talk to him. Miscommunication leads to disappointment and much bigger problem if hindi niyo naayos agad ‘yan. Tell him what you really feel, do not run away. What bothers you, and what pains you, tell him. You might knock some sense on him of you did that, Missy.”
After that talk with Nehemiah. I stayed until it was late night. Nauna na siyang umalis dahil may trabaho pa siya kinaumagahan. I thanked him for comforting me. He was like a big brother that I never had. I have an older sister but we never had a good relationship with each other.
