"I don't think we're getting anywhere with this," I said as I punched the buttons on the radio, scanning the stations.

Jane, Renesmee, and I had been in the car for fifteen minutes and I'd just barely convinced Jane to get the key in the ignition.

"I can't tell which one of you is lying about what," I continued nonchalantly. I was pretty checked out of the conversation at that point - if conversation is what you'd call it. They'd been going back and forth, bickering as their tempers steadily escalated. "I think we'd be better off trying to jog my memory so I can make decisions based on my own judgment, instead of the judgment of two strangers."

"We're not strangers," Jane said curtly from the driver's seat.

"What do you suggest?" Renesmee, who was sitting in the middle of the back seat, asked me.

"I don't know. Maybe I should see a specialist or something," I said.

"Or I could just turn you right now," Jane said flatly.

"You're going to haul a newborn overseas?" Renesmee snorted.

"I will do whatever I see fit," Jane told her coldly.

"I'm being serious, you guys. Give me a few days to get some answers. At the very least, I could figure out why I'm missing a chunk of memories," I said.

"How are you planning on treating your amnesia in a few days?" Renesmee asked.

"Once we figure out the cause, we can work our way back from there," I explained.

"We don't have time for this dawdling," Jane said.

"My friend, Mark, is a therapist. He's not a specialist, but maybe he could help," I suggested.

"Oh, yes. Just what we need, another human in the mix," Jane said with heavy sarcasm.

"Yeah, I don't know about that, Violet," Renesmee said, her forehead creased with doubt. "If Mark figures out too much he could get hurt."

"What a shame that would be," Jane said.

"Seriously?" Renesmee huffed at Jane. "Do you have to threaten to kill everyone you lay eyes on? Because it's getting old."

"I'll join your coven if you leave Mark alone," I offered. I hadn't known either girl for more than an hour, but I had already figured out who was the sociopathic sadist, and who was the sheltered know-it-all.

"You already swore to join my coven for all eternity, but I accept," Jane said, giving Renesmee a smug look. "But just remember, the law is the law."

"Fine, whatever," I said, waving her off. "I have to talk to him tomorrow, anyway." I frowned as I remembered my last conversation with him.

"Good luck with that," Jane said, laughing evilly.

"What?" I asked, eyeing her.

"It'll be entertaining to watch you talk your way around his big proclamation," Jane snickered. "Unless you're truly interested in him..."
