"What do you think they talk about when they block us out?" Felix asked aimlessly.

"Nothing good," Demetri smirked.

Alec ignored them; he had been doing his best to be maintain an air of civility with his covenmates, but, as of late, Demetri had been making it an almost impossible task.

He had put up with a lot from Demetri, when Violet was concerned, but it had only been because he wanted to respect Violet's wishes - no matter how much pain and turmoil it caused him.

But, Demetri's proclamation to Violet—

Every single word—

She misunderstood.

She doesn't understand.

She misunderstood.

She doesn't understand.

And he had the absolute gall to—

He had taken it way too far.

But, as much as Alec wanted to lash out and reap his revenge, he chose to play the same card he had been for the past five years.

He continued to patiently bide his time.

Demetri's number wasn't up yet, but it would be.

Soon.

So, instead of reacting, Alec keep his eyes trained on the small stucco home where Violet and Jane were holed up, discussing God knows what.

'Those two are never up to anything good when they get together,' Alec thought wearily, remembering all of the havoc this sister caused an a matter of weeks the last time Violet was in Italy.

"Ah. Ahhhh," he heard Violet's voice echo from the home. "Ahhhhlec. Alec! ALEC! ALEC!!!" she cried, each scream louder than the next.

Fear struck Alec's heart as he sprinted back into the house, unbelievably fast, and yet still not fast enough.

Glass rained from the home and and its surrounding buildings as the windows blew out, just as Alec reached the front door.

Inside, Jane was standing on opposite side of the room, looking expressionlessly as Violet, who sat on the couch, doubled over and screaming for him.

Then he saw the bite.

Alec instinctually threw himself across the room and scooped Violet into his arms and gently lay her across the couch.

"It's okay. You're going to be okay," he murmured as calmly as he could, despite how petrified he felt on the inside. He couldn't allow her to see him react to Jane. It would only cause her more pain and panic.
