"What wrong, sister?" Alec asked Jane bitingly

"What wrong, sister?" Alec asked Jane bitingly. "I thought we agreed that you would assist me with keeping Demetri away from Violet, not drive her to him."

Alec and Jane stood side by side at the edge of a small Romanian village, waiting, out of earshot, for Felix and Demetri to finish tying up the last few loose ends before they moved on. It was only one of the many villages they would have to visit during the time in their country, as their work had only just begun.

"And I thought we agreed that you would assist me with keeping her away from Renesmee. You double crossed me," Jane replyed.

"You double crossed me first."

The twins stood in brief moment of silence.

"We have to try harder to work together when we see her again," Alec said.

"Please. You set her up with Renesmee to build bridges and make amends. I'm not helping you anymore," Jane said flatly.

"I changed my tune near the end of the conversation."

"Oh, wow, brother. Would you like a gold star for that? Would you like a round of applause? You completely screwed me over."

"You were the one egging Demetri on after he made that awful comment."

"No, I didn't."

"Yes, you did."

"No. I didn't."

"Yes. You. Did."

"No, I didn't," Jane said through gritted teeth. "And if I were encouraging him, trust me, you would know."

"Well, you didn't discourage him, which is just as damaging."

"I think you're overreacting. I didn't do anything wrong."

"You laughed!" Alec said accusingly. "Why didn't you punish him, if you weren't trying to stab me in the back? Again."

"I didn't stab you in the back, brother. Don't be so dramatic," Jane said impatiently. "We need to get back on the same page. If we keep trying to undermine each other, we're both going to lose."

"Violet listens to you, Jane. All you have to do is tell her that I'm better than Demetri and that she belongs with me, and all of our problems will be solved."

"Sure, that's believable," Jane said, rolling her eyes. "And that doesn't solve my problem, it only solves yours."

"She trusts you. Could you please at least try?" Alec pleaded with his sister. "Think about it. When was the last time she disobeyed you? She'll do whatever you ask of her."

"So, you want me to command her to take you back," Jane said as laughter bubbled in her chest. "And you think she'll blindly listen."

"This is all your doing in the first place," Alec said bitterly, growing irritated by how flippantly Jane was treating the situation. "You were the one who kept trying to scare her off, and then you tried to convince her that I wasn't her mate! You still owe me for that. You need to undo that damage."
