"Violet, I think the twins have a point

"Violet, I think the twins have a point. We should talk," Renesmee said.

Jane and the guys hadn't been gone for more than ten minutes, and I was too busy trying to figure out what to do about being left behind. I certainly wasn't in the mood to sit around and talk about my feelings with Renesmee.

"Look, I'm glad we're friends again, but lets leave the drama in the past. We don't have to do this," I replied, trying my best to keep the impatience I felt out of my voice.

"We need to talk about Jacob," she insisted.

"No, we don't," I said sharply. "We need to find out where Jane and the guys are wandering off to, and we need to catch up with them."

"But why would we do that?"

I gave Renesmee and incredulous look. "Because they're my friends."

"Well," Renesmee said, sounding miffed, "Could you at least explain what happened between you and Demetri? You had a pretty fiery reaction to his remark."

"Nothing happened. We were together because I wanted to punish the people who murdered my family, and he saw an opportunity to piss off the twins. We were both very successful and we parted ways amicably. That's all."

I already felt like shit because of the way I treated Alec back then, and I was looking forward to leaving the past behind me and starting fresh.

Unfortunately, Renesmee refused to let the topic drop.

"If that were true then why did you...you know with him?" she asked with a note of judgement in her voice.

I stared at her and waited for her to elaborate; there was no way she was talking about what I thought she was talking about.

"Sex?" she whispered. "I mean, come on, Vi. He's not even your—"

"Where did you draw that conclusion?" I asked, bewildered. I was becoming deeply concerned about Renesmee's ability to interpret logical conclusions from very basic information. That girl really needed to talk to more people than just her immediate family - she was socially stunted, and is was really starting to show.

Also, if one more person told me that Alec was my mate again, I genuinely thought I'd kill them. It was driving me nuts.

"His remark!" she said with a bit of an attitude. She acted as if I asked her if the sky was blue.

"What did I just tell you? He was taking a shot at Alec. God, he's so parched for attention, it's ridiculous."

"Why would he drag you back into his beef with Alec?"

"Because he is an asshole. This isn't news," I said, growing thoroughly irritated.

"I guess Jane still doesn't want you and Alec together, then, since she didn't jump to his defense," Renesmee observed. "You would think she would've warmed up to the idea by now."
