Time seemed to drag as I stood there in the forest, waiting for the phone to pick up.
More than anything, I was worried that I wouldn't get an answer.
Maybe Renesmee was right after all.
"Hello?" I heard over the line after three long, drawn out rings.
"Demetri," I breathed into the receiver in relief.
"What's wrong?" he asked, his cool voice drifted through the earpiece. He sounded surprised to hear from me.
I was surprised, as well, to be honest. I wasn't confident that I'd recollected his number accurately when I punched it into my phone. "Um. I'm lost."
"What? What do you mean, you're lost?"
"Er. Well. I may have been trying to follow you all day. I have Renesmee with me, but we got lost. I don't know where we are."
I didn't have much time to chat, I knew my phone could cut out at any given moment, but I kept stupidly repeating myself and restating the same information.
"Doesn't she have a map on her phone?"
"She left it at home so her parents wouldn't find her. I mean, we have a paper map, but..."
"How are you following us?" he questioned. I couldn't tell if he was growing more confused or frustrated by our conversation. "Do you even know where we're going?"
"No, I don't, but we..."
"What?"
"We figured we would start by heading towards Poenari Citadel so..."
It sounded even more idiotic when I said it out loud.
"In all seriousness, are you prank calling me with a Dracula joke? Because I don't find this to be particularly funny."
"No! We're really lost! We're out in the woods somewhere and it's cold and it's getting dark and—"
The line when dead.
"Goddamn it!" I exclaimed.
"What?" Renesmee asked, startled by my tone.
"I ran out of minutes!"

Renesmee and I had no other choice but to push on. We had no idea where we were going, or if we'd make it through the night, but we couldn't give up on trying to find shelter.
Eventually, last rays of daylight were snuffed out by the walls of trees that surrounded us, allowing the deep, dark night to set in. We kept walking and the temperature continued to drop as we tried to keep our spirits up.
