In the time that Elena was away, Elijah made tea to calm me down. While we waited, he told more stories of his travels.

The things his seen and done. I could only imagine.

After a moment of silence, I can't stop myself from speaking my mind. "I hope you don't fancy my sister in any way. I have a feeling it wont end well."

He looks taken aback. His mouth opens and closes like a fish. But the words never come. "Welcome back." I hear him say instead.

"Tell me whats Klaus's curse." She doesn't spare me a look, storming in as if on a mission. "Is Jenna, okay?"

"Why do you care?" She snaps.

I flinch away with guilt burning my chest. But the vampire in the room redirects the conversation.

"My family was quite close, but Klaus and my father did not get on too well. When we became vampires, we discovered the truth. Klaus was not my father's son. My mother had been unfaithful many years before. This was her darkest secret. Klaus is from a different bloodline. Of course, when my father discovered this, he hunted down, and he killed my mother's lover and his entire family. Not realizing, of course, that he was igniting a war between species that rages until this day." My heart rate picks up.

The story feels too familiar. It hits so close to home. "Werewolves?" I whisper to myself. Forgetting that I'm in the presence if a very old vampire.

"Yes Ivy. So, you understand then?"

"What? I don't understand?" Elena inquires.

"Klaus's real father was a werewolf. My father started the war between vampire and werewolves." Elijah replies.

"What does that make Klaus? A werewolf or a vampire?" Elena voices my thoughts. There was no way nature would allow him to be both. And yet haven't I experienced the impossible this year? Why would this be any different.

"Oh God, Elijah. Surely he can't be..."I trail off, not wanting to voice what I know to be true. Fear finds it way to my heart.

"He's both." He confirms my worries. "A hybrid would be deadlier than any werewolf or vampire. Nature would not stand for such an imbalance of power. Therefore, the witches, the servants of nature, saw to it that my brothers werewolf side would become dormant."

I snort. Servants of nature my ass.

"Breaking the curse will trigger that part of him thats a werewolf. If allowed, Klaus would sire his own bloodline. He'd build his own race. Endangering not just vampire but everyone."The vampire lingers on my face. As if waiting for a reaction from me.

All I can feel is fear at what he will be able to do but also as if this should happen. I'm cursed... what if my curse ties in with his? My head snaps in his direction. "Is there something you're not telling me?"

"Yes."

Elena groans like a child. "We have the dagger."

"Silver does not work on werewolves. An original cant be killed by anything but white oak on a silver dagger. So, you see the conundrum. The dagger does not work on him. Theres one way to kill any supernatural species. And its at the hands of the servants of nature themselves."

He goes on to say that a witch that can channel enough power is able to kill him. My sister confesses that she has such a witch.

Once again Elena is using someone she loves as a pawn in her sick game.

My hopes and dreams of an Elena free life dies when the Original mentions a way to save the doppelganger.

We walk into the boarding house to the Salvatore brothers fighting. Probably about Elena. Luckily, she breaks them up, so we don't have front row seats to blood shedding.
