CHAPTER TWELVE
Curiosity Killed The ManDevin Ashdown arrived in style and manner at his superb estate. He greeted Lace and Chase inside, situated himself comfortably next to Lace on the couch, and teasingly took the book she was reading. "The Great Gatsby, I've read that once before. Probably in my deathbed last lifetime."
Lace pouted angrily and snatched the book back, ignoring his presence and fully entering the world of ignorance and proclaimed interest towards the book. Devin looked behind to catch Chase giving him a warning look. "She gets so irritated it's adorable," Devin stood up and sat across him on the coffee table, overstepping his regimen and taking the chips he was eating. Chase seized the bowl of chips and it slipped right out of Devin's grasp as he tried to beat Chase. Devin attempted once more to reach out and take another chip, but Chase shot him a burning glaze and said, "I will cut your throat."
"Fine," Devin took a bowl of chips for himself and sat back down. "What's the plan for today?" He asked, munching on his snacks. Chase sighed and placed the bowl back on the table, and confided in, "I'm clueless," He confessed.
"I thought the great Chase Creed always has a plan," Devin said with raised eyebrows. "Yeah, well we're totally screwed. I never anticipated running out. If we kept up with our timetable with no loose ends we would've had the beast awake and had control over the source."
Time did indeed take a funny toll on them. Their problems had been having too much time to reach the results they were progressing for, but then it all changed in a second, no longer having too much time. In fact, they had too little time to get anywhere. But in fairness, they never accepted such changes and in addition to raised questions. Although the smarter move would've been asking the right questions so they wouldn't reach the point they were at. In another world of oblivion, Cassidy sat at her window and looked down at the empty road. The number of times she had sighed was no longer countable. Living in the moment such as adoring the quietness of the skies and hating the buzz of the streets, she felt the shift. She missed the noise and she had no desire to look at the skies for she felt it no longer move with time. For she was stuck in an endless loop of bore and emptiness, the content of such a life no longer infested her world.
She twiddled with her fingers, disinterested and unsure of what to do with her time. She dropped down from the window and closed it. The night crept in and it was another day to look forward to with the little clinging hope that it would be different. But the day after she tucked herself in with the optimism that the next day would be better, it was not. She awoke to the sound of a few walking steps, most likely outsiders who woke up at the crack of dawn to avoid any officials. There were errands to be obviously done, and the Valkyrie couldn't have been oblivious that their methods were ineffective and bothersome, it was clear as day they couldn't care less.
Cassidy took the liberty of getting dressed and wearing a casual light blue sweater and high-waisted jeans. She sneaked out of her place and onto the streets, catching the other sneaky people who walked faster, their hearts thumping taster at the sight of another person who looked at their way. Cassidy quietly chuckled at their anxious faces. She stopped mid-way and looked up at the bright blue sky that smiled upon her. She felt the coldness of the weather greeting her, she stuff her hands in her pockets and sprinted towards the bakeshop. She entered and the bell rang announcing her arrival. Lilac Evergreens exited out from the back with such a wide smile, running straight to Cassidy's embrace. "Tone down your excitement, people might think I've deprived you of me," Cassidy laughed, pressing her cheek softly onto Lilac's hair.
Lilac ran to the back of the bakery, hidden away from Cassidy's sight. Lilac worked in many places, and she had brought it to her power to work in a bakery. It was always something Lilac loved to do, and her growing passion for it never brought her to have it as a constant in her life. Unfortunately, she loved the idea of change more than living her dream forever. She had recently been bestowed the opportunity and grabbed it immediately, But circumstances like Ashgrim's sluggish energy put her in a very upsetting position. To be a lover of baking and to have the first day to be filled with customers and compliments. But Cassidy was the only one to witness her at work, and at the place that suited a ball of energy like Lilac.
