CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN
Most Awaited Matrimony
Getting through the walls was easier than Cassidy Idgen expected but she wasn't surprised. She had know the true capabilities of the Vimgards: the five lasting, whether they had worked hard to reach their potential or their greatness was simply in their nature, she couldn't imagine what it would have been with all the Vimgard clans in harmony, alive and fighting. What she thought to be impossible they always made possible with no difficulty, reminding her of the previous group.
But she was constantly reminded that they were far more powerful than them: and they were family. They weren't bound for self desires, they were simply dedicated, and would put their life on the line for the other. That separated the two; and despite their greater power in comparison to the ten, their human emotions were weakness. Unlike the other group, they were ruthless, and would end at nothing.
It was different with the Vimgards. They would constantly bicker like siblings, but they loved each other to death. And despite the lingering feeling of missing, especially longing for Lilac, Cassidy was happy that she had found them. It was only unfortunate she had promised the universe of change: she was no longer the Cassidy she once was. Sometimes she would hate that the Vimgards were the ones to deal with her alternative self, but they somehow never made her feel different. Everyone knew she was rebranding, especially Cassidy herself.
Thanks to Cassidy brushing past Abourne and Inez, their physical contact had activated every other manifestation of the source; Sadie Vimgard's empathic ability had been activated which was the active call for the Vimgards to take action. And thanks to the compass that had been stolen from the Vile building, they were able to track her down while causing ruckus along the way.
The shattered heath of beauty that sprung on Ashgrim within seasons dispersed, like war as a warning point had befallen on the cursed people, no fault, merely an unjust leader. The constellations she would admire from the window of her room with starry eyes was just a distant memory. She was back in Ashgrim, but it did not feel the same. Perhaps it was the lack of misery in thirty days that had made her long to go back into the dungeon of danger; Ashgrim was like walking into one but with a higher risk of losing the comforts she had gained. It was serious, and it was not some silly game the seventeen year old were to face. It was real.
The pressure of facing the Valkyrie was constantly idle in her mind, Cassidy Idgen would try her hardest to suppress it, but she had given up. She knew she had to accept that in a war, there was weighted repercussions; and it would pain her, it would pain all of Ashgrim. That is why Cassidy Idgen, a fool, would bleed herself dry of emotions. She could not afford to feel, too much depended on her. Their victory depended on her, and even just one moment of weakness could lead to a fall down. It wasn't worth toppling over all the years many have spent for this opportunity. For the overthrow of Oceanna Murray Vile. But she had a different plan in mind, a different plan from Chase Creed and the power grabbers. It was a new plan with the Vimgards: a building of a new time where power was not something to be easily desired. So when she had watched Lilac Evergreens sat, her hair brushing past her smiling face, she did not let temptation rise.
Dare not approach her, I'd rather die. Cassidy promised. She had promised the Vimgards to stay away from everyone, especially the people who had caused her more harm than good. The Vimgards helped her understand, to heal the wounds they had brought scarring upon, and the wounds of deception. They were not your friends, Cassidy. She knew, of course. But she always disliked being confronted with such words. Lilac Evergreens was her friend, she had believed. She wouldn't stop looking for her, she believed. But there her friend sat on the bridesmaid's side, smiling as she chattered with Sung Mi and Inez. Cassidy Idgen first noticed the scars on their face, but she knew it would only be a reminder to them. A reminder of her burden. She was furious just thinking of it.
