CHAPTER THIRTY
Hidden Achilles Heel

The safety net of Zakeen's gracious offer of home stay was short-lived. An ill fate of being hunted down by a predator was far worse than Cassidy had expected.

Attempting to build a near perfect world was thought to be impossible. Many ordinary things and practices were isolated and deprecated. These included cultures, religions, the internet, and many other things that were 'corrupt'. Worshipping a deity was considered to be punishable, and although there was never a witness account to the fact, everyone had strayed away from trying to find out whether it was true or not. But one thing for sure in Ashgrim was the open celebration and high admiration for Vermithis no matter the intention or belief. Many believed the God to be a hoax meanwhile many also believed her to be real and a modern representation of a higher status as to humankind. It had become the own free religion when Ashgrim was being built into a new world where the new higher-up was brought in and nurtured into people's minds. Although no one by far has ever been punished for speaking of Vermithis; there was no denying the dislike by Oceanna and her people in authority of such mentions of the God.

If Cassidy Idgen were to fully devote her faith in Vermithis, one sign of a divine interference would shine on the stygian hair of a calamitous person who wasn't just sent to warn, but to stray her away from danger. She had been in full disbelief amidst the trouble of the persistence of the wolves that had come to endanger her and the secrets she withheld. Oceanna Vile had ordered watchmen to burst into Zakeen's home to take away the desired gem. But unfortunately for them, they had been stopped almost immediately when they had been flanked and three who were on guard were injured.

The watchmen that had caught onto their fallen men immediately put their walls up and together raised their pistols aligned within head shot. They walked slowly, checking every corner and making sure not to make any noise. The two watchmen that had been tasked to restrain Cassidy had one hand on hers while the other on their guns.

An all too familiar dagger went up in the air precisely heading for one of the watchmen by the door straight into his leg, injuring him and falling onto the floor, unable to assist further. He groaned in pain and just like the wind, in a few seconds the shadow drifted past the hall dodging all the shots being taken. Before Cassidy could decipher anything, she had noticed the struggling body on the ground disarmed of his gun and blood gushing out the leg, the dagger nowhere to be found. In just merely seconds, August Vile had avoided bullets meanwhile retrieving her weapons.

The swift time had dissolved and completely surrendered to the controlled fate of August Vile as the seconds that ticked were far more valuable than the hours spent by the watchmen to prepare. She had appeared and disappeared within seconds to disarm them without putting up a fight. And she had even struck fear and pain amongst them. She had everything to gain.

She was slowly making her way towards the watchmen that strongly guarded Cassidy after the realization of their fallen men. They needed to secure what they had came for. The watchmen that hadn't been disarmed or forced to face August's aggressive daggers had rushed to Cassidy. It was her against seven watchmen that surrounded Cassidy in an arranged manner. One watchmen spoke into his walkie talkie, confirming their target was secured however the mission was compromised.

August Vile walked out of the wall's sight and faced the watchmen with a deceiving smile, blood running down her hands and only one dagger gripped. She looked at Cassidy, attempting to speak to her with any psychic connection, but that was impossible, she was of melachony and had an expressionless face despite being in the middle of a warfare. But Cassidy somehow understood the unspoken agreement, and in unison she pushed her elbows deep into the hands that suppressed her while August disappeared from sight once again. One of the watchmen next to Cassidy groaned in pain but not due to her hitting him but the blood that gushed out of his side hip and a dagger that pierced it. August Vile slid down the hall swiftly and a second later as the watchmen processed, shot through the walls she no longer was in. They looked to the sides but to their surprise, she had emerged out of the other side of the hall again, sliding down and throwing a second dagger. Two men were down and she was up against five left.
