Adrian's POV
"Sorry Ali, I have to do something really important before I head home. But I asked Claire to give you a ride. Is that okay?" I asked.
"Yeah that's fine." she replied, as I saw Claire waving from her car.
We exchanged goodbyes and started walking the opposite direction. It killed me to not be with Ali after what had happened yesterday, but at least I knew that she'd be safe with Claire.
I knew that Ali would hate me for going behind her back like this. But I couldn't stand what James' had done to her.
Walking up to the police station, an officer stopped me.
"Aren't you supposed to be at school?" He questioned.
"No, we just finished."
He nodded as he let me in. I walked over to the main desk and started speaking.
"My friend was sexually assulted by James Collorad." I stated.
"Yeah? Where's your proof?" A female officer asked.
I ignored her and began explaining the full story, also adding the fact that I was reporting this behind her back, which was why I don't have any proof just yet.
"Call Alison Jackson in to confirm this." Another officer commanded me. "James Collorad will be arriving very shortly."
My hands were shaking as I called her. I had to be subtle, or she would ask questions. She picked up on the first ring.
"Adrian? Why aren't you home yet? Are you-"
"Come to the police station now. Please, Alison." I hung up.
That's when I realised that James was sitting next to me, looking defeated.
I smiled smugly at him, remembering the talk we had this morning. Now who's laughing? But he was right about one thing, I was falling for Ali. And it scared me more than it should have.
All the other times I had loved someone, they left me.
When I still lived in Australia, I had the perfect family. My older sister Sophia and I had the perfect grades, and my parents were happily in love. We had money, food and shelter. There was nothing else that we needed. But all of that changed the day before my 8th birthday. For my birthday, we were going taking a plane to Queensland. My parents had already bought us all passes to all the amusement parks. My dad told me that I had to wait until after the trip for my birthday present. But as the impatient child I was, I just couldn't wait that long, so I threw a tantrum.
It was wet and snowy the day before my fifth birthday, and I had overheard my parents arguing about whether or not to buy my present.
"Pete, we should get him a present. Tomorrow's his birthday after all." My mum pleaded.
"Do you see the snow out there? It's dangerous to be outside." My dad argued.
In the end, my mum won the argument. I knew she would, she always does. A few minutes later my parents announced that they needed to go shopping.
"What for?" Sophia asked.
"Don't worry." Mum combed her fingers through Sophia's hair. "We'll be back in half an hour."
3 hours passed, and Sophia was starting to get worried. But I knew that they were going to come back. They wouldn't leave without my present. All I could focus on was what they might have gotten me. Maybe it was that toy plane I've wanted for a while.
A few minutes later there was a knock on the door. It was a police man. I ran up to Sophia from behind.
"Soph, what's wrong?" I asked.
