We followed the mouse through several hallways before it stopped outside of the door I recognize as Ms. Christian's room.
She was maneuvering under the door when I grabbed the pink tail of the creature and lifted it up.
"Hey! Let me go!" She squeaked and I held her to my face.
"We need you," I smiled.
"Creep," she muttered. I shrugged.
The door ahead of us opened and Ms. Christian appeared. I swallowed, along with everyone else in the hallway.
"Demigods...." she snickered. I held the mouse closer to me as she transformed into a wrinkly old hag with pointed teeth and no ears. She made a noise as if she was choking and lunged at me. I yelped and the mouse was flung backward.
She had me pinned on the floor. Maddy and Adam ran to help me but were both tackled by two more wrinkly hags that I recognized as Harpies. All three fates at once? This can't be good.
"I'm gonna rip your throat out!" she growled in a weird voice. Something cold suddenly was on my neck and I hoped it wasn't blood or anything.
I had to move my head a lot to avoid being headless, and my chest down got really scratched up.
I grew some long claws on one of my hands and scratched the Harpies' face and kicked her off. I heard screeching as she stood and flew up. She dove and was quickly flying closer when I remembered the thing around my neck. I looked a it and saw a black chain with a red metal heart with black wings outlined in silver on a black dog tag. I pressed on the heart, and the dog tag melted into a Stygian iron sword with a red and black hilt.
I lifted the beautiful sword and the Harpy flew right into it. She disappeared in golden dust that dropped on me. I heard sneezing and saw a girl with copper hair and green eyes behind me with golden dust on her as well.
"Go help Maddy," I said and she sighed before running over and helping her. I ran to Adam, who was still pinned and was scratched as badly as I was and down the long hallway.
"Couldn't you have come sooner?!" he asked frantically as he dodged the fangs of the harpy that was pinning him.
"I got caught up," I said. "Watch your head."
Adam pushed his head to the ground as I quickly swung my sword at the harpy. It hit her neck and she disintegrated, leaving gold dust all over Adam. He sighed and sat up while brushing the dust off of himself.
"Hey. What's that?" I pointed at a stick with a pinecone on it that was in Ms. Christian's classroom. Adam shrugged and we snuck in while Maddy and the other girl fought off the third harpy.
I found the same heart with wings shape on my sword and pressed on it. It turned back into the dog tag on the chain around my neck.
"New toy?" Adam asked.
"Yep."
I walked up to the thing and touched it and was instantly bombarded with the smell and taste of grapes and wine.
"Touch it," I told Adam. He did and his irises turned purple the whole time he did.
"Whoa," he said. I nodded and grabbed it, once again being flooded with the smell and taste.
We got back to the place Maddy and the girl was and saw them, along with Leo and Nico.
"What happened to you?" Leo asked.
"Harpies," I said. They answered with 'ahs'. "What are you doing here?"
"We heard the harpies from outside," Nico explained. "They're loud creatures."
"So, what's your name babe?" Leo asked and I rolled my eyes.
"Kaycee Zhang," the girl shrugged. My mouth fell open. That's why she looked so familiar.
