I pulled my knees to my chin and wrapped my arms around my legs. I flicked some bangs that went in my eyes as I sighed. I had uncountable crushes, but no one I crushed on ever liked me back and would harshly reject me. There was no way my mom was Aphrodite.
"What are you doing down here?" a voice asked. I turned my head and saw Maddy.
"Well, what are YOU doing here?" I asked, hoping to keep her from knowing.
"I asked you first."
"So?"
"Just tell me."
"Not until you do."
"Fine. I couldn't sleep. Seeing horses reminds me of home." Maddy sat next to me, cross-legged. "What about you?"
"Well, my brother and sisters were talking about crushes and stuff, and I felt uncomfortable." I looked away from her. "Even though Aphrodite is my mom, I just feel awkward and uncomfortable when people talk about that stuff. I'm not sure why though." I put my hands on the cool floor and stretched my legs out.
"Well, you just might have more Hades genes than Aphrodite. I mean, that happens to lots of people. I feel that way sometimes too," Maddy said. The moonlight coming from the window at the very top of the room made her hair shine and eyes sparkle. I never really saw her like that in the few years I've known her.
"Apollo, right?" I asked.
"Yea. I'm not into medicine, archery, or prophecies. I love to sing, play instruments, and write poems though."
"I'd like to hear one." I said smiling. Maddy looked at me.
"Your smiling. I thought that was physically impossible for you," she said with a laugh.
"My dad is pretty much the only one that makes me smile, but I think you cracked me." I leaned closer to her. My chest felt warm and my stomach felt like butterflies, no, manly moths, were flittering around.
"Well, I'm glad." She leaned closer as well.
"So, do you have a crush?" I asked.
"I do, and it started only recently," she said while staring into my purple eyes.
"Who?"
"Well, I'd rather not say. He might not feel the same way."
The moths were flying around faster.
"What about you?" she asked.
"I don't know if she likes me too." I reached up and brushed some hair out of her face.
"Do I know her?"
"Quite well."
She smiled. I loved her smile. We scooted closer and I finally closed the space between our faces. I felt her giggle under my lips and I smiled and kept kissing her.
