Pain of the past

Im back

The cab pulls up outside the house, a house I haven't seen in 4 years. I couldn't believe how nervous I was. I got everything out of the cab and walked to the door. This was it. I knocked on the door and waited.
I heard talking from the other side of the door.
"Scott don't you touch those cookies" the door swung open "Nikki?"
"Hi Lisa"
"Omg honey what are you doing here?" She pulled me into a hug. A hug I have throughly missed.
"I need your help" I pulled away from her and looked over to the path. She looked too. And there stood my twins. Jessica and Noah.
"Wow! Erm.....come on in"
We all went inside and the kids played in the living room while I spoke with Lisa.
"What's going on sweetie? We haven't seen you in 4 years"
"I know, I'm so sorry I just disappeared. Joe wanted to move and I didn't have much say in it"
I could feel myself tearing up. "Oh honey what's going on?"
"I ran away, from joe"
"Why?"
"He.....he....hurt me"
"What?"
"I found out I was pregnant and he wasn't happy so he hurt me, and then walked away and left me there. So I packed up and came to the only place I ever felt safe"
"Oh sweetie. Your pregnant as well?"
"Yes. He never wanted the twins so when he found out about this little one. He lost it"
I start crying, full on sobbing.
"Mum wants going on?" Scot came into the kitchen and looked at me "Nikki?"
"Hey Scottie"
He walked over to me and wrapped me in a hug.
"What's going on?"
Just then 2 little ones come toddling Into the kitchen. "Mummy? We are hungry"
"Of course. I should go and get them some food"
"Don't be silly sit down, I'll make then something"
"Lisa...."
"Don't argue go and sit with scott in the living room and I'll make some food"
"Thank you"
I walked into the living room, the kids keep playing and I explain everything to Scott. He just hugs me close and I finally relax. Lisa brings in the food and the kids say thank you. They eat up and curl up on the sofa. There tired it has been a long day. We step back into the kitchen and continuing talking.
"Honey what are you going to do?"
"I don't know. I don't know what to do Lisa"
We hear the door open and I hear that ever familiar voice shout through "hey mum you here?"
He walks into the kitchen and just stares at me "Nikki?"
"Hey Chris"
"What are you doing here?"
Before I have a chance to answer, I hear Jessica crying. "Who's that?"
I walk past chris and into the living room.
"Hey sweetie what's wrong?"
"Bad dream....dada bad"
I feel myself tear up. My poor babies.
"Daddy isn't going to hurt you okay I promise"
"Mummy?"
"Yes honey"
"I love you"
"I love you too baby"
She settled back down and fell back to sleep. I look up and see chris staring down at me shocked. I walk into the garden and he follows.
"Nikki what's going on?"
"There my kids chris, Jessica Lisa and Noah Christopher"
"Christopher?"
"After you. Your my bestest friend chris"
"Really? Because I haven't seen you in 4 years Nik. You just left"
"I thought I was doing the right thing for love chris. Joe twisted my mind okay"
"So you left a man rule your life. The one thing you said you would never do"
"Chris don't" I go to walk away and he grabs my arm. I flinch back and he looks at me worried. He pulls my sleeve up and sees all the bruises.
"God! Nikki did he do that?"
I just nod and try to hide the tears that are threatening to spill.
He pulls me to him and wraps me up in his arms. My safe place was always chris. He had this way of making me feel calm.

After a few hours, I had told everyone everything. I was worn out but I still needed to find somewhere to stay.
"Lisa could you look after the kids for a while. I need to find a hotel or something"
"Don't be silly, you can...."
Before Lisa could finish chris jumped in "stay with me"
"Chris I can't do that. If the press get wind of this....your reputation and everything"
"I don't care about that Nikki, just please stay with me"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes"
"Thank you"

We grabbed my stuff and the kids and chris drove us to his house. When we walked in, a dog came running towards us.
"Dodger down" the dog sat and did as he was told.
"Where can I put the kids"
"Follow me"
He walked me to a kids room, I guess it was for Carly's kids.
"They can sleep here"
"Thank you"
I put the kids down and they snuggle into there teddies. "Goodnight my babies"
I turn off the lights and walk into the kitchen where chris is standing.
"Do you want a drink?"
"Please"
"Coffee?"
"No just water please. Can't really drink coffee at the moment"
"Oh right sorry"
"It's okay"
We got our drinks and sat in the living room.
"Are you sure this is okay chris?"
"Of course Nikki, I wouldn't have it any other way"
"I know but chris I have 2 kids 1 on the way. It's a lot"
"Nikki it's okay"
I just nod and I get up, I start pacing. Chris walks to me "hey, stop okay. I can practically hear your thoughts"
"What if he finds me chris? I can't let that happen I just can't"
He pulls me into a hug "he won't. I will keep you safe I promise"
I just nod and lay my head on his chest. I needed to keep my kids safe and I didn't know how too. But hopefully with chris by my side I could get through this.
