"Soda! Soda!" Steve yelled at me. I met him 2 years ago when we were 4. We're 6 now. I think, I'd have to ask momma to make sure.

Steve ran up to me. "I saw my daddy like put his lips on a guys lips! It was like like uhh-" he tried to explain.

"Was your daddy drinking?"

"Yeah! But he still out his mouth on a guys mouth!"

"Like this?"

I leaned in like I had saw my momma and daddy do before and put my lips on Steve's. He did it back. Then, we heard a scream and saw my kid brother, Ponyboy, by us screaming his head off.

"Shut up!" Steve and I yelled. He still didn't shut up! Gosh, he's so annoying sometimes. Me and Steve ran over to our swings but Ponyboy got on Steve's before he could.

I sat there staring at my brother and best friend. Then Steve pushed Ponyboy off his swing. The kid just sat there staring at Steve. Once he made eye contact with me, he started screaming and crying.

My momma came running over and picked him up. Steve got on his swing. Me and him started swinging and talking about our families. Me and Steve were gonna best friends forever.

(Steve's POV)

I read the little diary entry my best friend wrote when he was 6. The hand written was sloppy but it was readable. He didn't deserve to die. He was only 18. A few weeks shy of his 19th birthday.

Sodapop Patrick Curtis died September 25th, 1967 in Vietnam. I watched him get shot. The gunshots rang through my ears. I read more of his diary entries.

They were all about Ponyboy or our friendship. Soda was a good person, he didn't deserve to die that way.

Please, being him back.

I scribbled in the back of his diary as I'd it'd bring him back. Why did he get taken liktw that. First Johnny, then Dallas, now Sodapop. Who's next? Ponyboy. I knocked on Ponyboy's desk so I would accidentally jinx myself.

I may hate the kid but he was Soda's kid brother. I wouldn't want anything happening to my best friend's kid brother
