{Sidestory II - Music Bus}

"The wheels on the bus go round and round! Round and round! Round and round! The wheels on the bus go round and round! All day long!"

Hange covered her ears with her neck pillow, trying to block out the noise.

"Ugh, why'd we have to get stuck on the bus with the grade twelves?" Hange whined to Levi.

"You know why," he replied, reading his e-book. "There wasn't enough room on the buses that were taking the grade nines to the campgrounds."

"I know but they've been singing this song for the whole trip! It's the same verse! Over and over and- ugh!"

One of the grade twelves who was sitting behind the pair looked over the chair and at Hange.

"Hey, missy," he said. "If either you or him can sing really well, why don't you sing for us instead of complaining?"

"S-sing?" Hange stammered. "Oh, I don't sing in front of people, hahaha."

"I didn't know you sang, Hange," Levi said.

"W-well, yeah, on my own."

"I've never heard you sing before."

"That's because I don't want anyone to hear me. D-do you sing, Levi?"

Levi looked away.

"Not usually."

Hange gasped happily.

"So you do sing!"

"Well, let's hear it, then, aye?" the boy said. "Come on!"

"No," Levi replied.

"Come on," said a girl sitting next to the grade twelve boy. "You keep complaining about our singing, so why don't you sing instead?"

"I never complained. That was Hange. If anyone, she should be the one who sings."

"Oh, we doing that, are we, Levi?" Hange said with a smirk. "If that's the case, I don't see why I can't pester you to sing for us as well. So? Sing something!"

"No."

"Come on! Please, Levi?"

"Sing for us!"

"Yeah! Go on!"

Soon, most of the bus had erupted into pleas for Levi to sing, most of them not even really knowing what was going on.

"Alright! Alright!" Levi shouted over the top of their voices. "If I sing for you, will you leave me alone?"

The kids around Levi nodded excitedly. He sighed.

"Fine. I'll do it."

The bus exploded into excited cheers, which soon quieted down so Levi could sing. Hange showed him her phone and a Bluetooth speaker.

"I only have this instrumental downloaded. Can you sing this one?" she asked.

Levi nodded. He took a deep breath, preparing himself. He looked at Hange and nodded. She quickly prepared the music, then pressed play.

(A/N: Here you go 🙂)

As the song played and Levi sang, the whole bus was left astounded and in awe in the presence of this amazing voice. Hange's eyes glistened with excitement and wonder.

It's... beautiful. Amazing... she thought.

She felt herself blushing. Even though she was right next to him, she didn't care. The moment was too glorious to worry about anything. She closed her eyes and smiled, enjoying every second until finally, the song came to an end.

She opened her eyes as an eruption of applause filled the bus. She looked at Levi, who looked at her.

"That was amazing," she said.

Levi looked down, almost smiling.

"Thanks," he said.

Hange, still captivated by the previous moments, slung her arm around Levi's shoulder and sighed.

"You truly are amazing," she sighed.

Is she drunk or something? Levi thought to himself. Or maybe she's still for some reason really happy because I sang. I wasn't that good, was I?

"Hey!" the boy behind them said. "You should totally sing a love song! Your deeper voice would be great for that!"

The nearby students all agreed.

"Don't be stupid," Levi said. "Who would I even sing the song for?"

"Her, obviously," the girl behind them said, pointing to Hange.

"Eh?!" Hange shouted, pulling away from Levi. "Why me?!"

"What, aren't you guys dating or something?"

"Huh?! N-no! Why would you think that?! I mean... n-not that it would necessarily be a bad thing but... No! We're not dating."

"Wow," the girl said.

"Way to get him rejected, Myah," the boy said.

"Shut up, Chuck! I did not get him rejected! She just said they're not dating! That is all!"

The girl looked at Hange and Levi and giggled.

"Not yet, at least."

And with that, she and the boy ducked down behind the chairs and sat back down. Everyone resumed singing nursery rhymes.

"Unbelievable," Hange muttered.

"Relax, Hange," Levi said. "We get the last laugh."

"Oh? How so?"

"Because of the detour to our camp grounds, the grade twelves will have to spend two or three more hours on the bus than originally planned. Long bus trips can make anyone uncomfortable."

"Heh, I guess you're right. Oh hey, look outside. It's so dark!"

Levi and Hange looked out the window at the dark clouds that were forming.

"I checked the weather earlier," Levi said. "It's meant to be cold and windy for the next two weeks."

"Better than being stuck in the bus forever in unbearable heat, I suppose."

Hange yawned.

"Bus trips make me tired. I might take a nap for the rest of our trip."

"Go ahead."

"You should, too. You didn't sleep last night."

"I'm fine."

"I'll knock you out if I have to."

"No, you won't."

"I will."

Levi sighed and put his earbuds in, looking out the window.

"Do what you wish."

Nothing happened for about fifteen minutes, as Levi predicted. But what he didn't predict was Hange falling asleep on his shoulder.

He looked at her for a few moments before smiling slightly and patting the top of her head.

"Get a good rest, Four-Eyes."
