Hange flipped through the tiny notebook in which her favourite plans leading up to that special moment were summarised.
"Nope. Not good enough. Horrible. Definitely not worthy." Hange slammed her head on the desk. "Argh! Nothing in here is good enough!"
"Maybe you shouldn't judge them so harshly," Angel advised gently. "He's your best friend, isn't he?"
"Yes, which is exactly why he deserves more!"
"I just can't believe you're actually doing it..." Maxie said, somewhat amazed. "I mean, I guess you had to at some point but... somehow I'm still surprised."
"That isn't exactly helping," Hange said through her gritted teeth.
"Sorry..."
"It's fine... I'm just frustrated."
"You got this," Angel said, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You know what he loves better than anyone. Personally, I think he'd be much happier with you than whatever you present to him. Because it comes from you, that's what gives it meaning."
Hange's eyes flickered from her notebook to the ground. She wanted to believe Angel was right—that Levi would be happy with whatever she gave him because it was coming from her. It was all she wanted.
"Just think of something simple," Raina suggested. "But something sweet as well. You don't need to go overboard as that just totally kills the mood. What's something you can do that's simple, nice and you can do alone?"
"Alone?"
"Trust me, I've seen what happens when someone gets the whole group involved. It's literally just not it."
Hange stared back at her notebook—flipping through the pages once again and at the little details in her plans.
If I need something simple then maybe combining some of the smaller details would work...
"How about..." Hange began. "On the cruise—somewhere on the deck where we're alone... and during the sunset?"
"You aren't going to be alone on deck," Maxie said. "That's just a fact."
"Then maybe... Well, we're going to a private research island, aren't we? I can do it there. Sure—research doesn't exactly scream love but... I'm sure I can find somewhere on that island where we can be alone."
"Do you think it'll work?" Angel asked.
Hange nodded. "It's worth a try."
Angel nodded and smiled. "We wish you the best of luck."
"Don't worry," Raina said. "We've got weeks—months even—until that time comes. You have time to prepare."
"You don't really have anything to prepare in the first place, do you?" Maxie asked. "It's just you, Levi and the sunset."
"I just hope it doesn't rain..." Hange murmured.
"If it does, hopefully, it rains after the confession."
Hange smiled and nodded. She checked the clock on her bedside table. "Well, would you look at the time? Shoo shoo, all of you! School starts up again tomorrow and I want a good night's rest!"
"That's no way to treat your helpers," Maxie giggled as she walked out of Hange's dorm.
"Good night, Hange," Angel said, following Maxie to their shared dorm.
Raina gave Hange a little two-finger salute before walking in the opposite direction to her dorm.
Hange gently closed the door and packed all of her stuff before her roommates came back from whatever activities they were participating in, then flopped down on her bed.
